Anyone else skipping it this year? We just didn’t have the energy.

Sort of. We're doing CHristmas at New Years. I was able to get a whole week off from work, so we'll have a nice chunk of time. On actual Christmas we have no plans.

My Christmas these last few years have just consisted of a handful of decorations and playing Christmas music (or winter themed music) when I feel like it. No presents except for internet Secret Santa stuff. But wine and chocolate, yes.

Maybe one day I'll feel like going all out again. But not now.

I wish. This is year 2 of after my mom passing away and it is somehow hitting me harder than the first year. It isn't an all encompassing crying sadness, just a "I don't have the energy" type of thing. I floated the idea of skipping the holiday this year but apparently I am the only one feeling this way. I usually celebrate the solstice on my own by baking a lot (to give to people) and planning a weekend camping trip or hike and I haven't even thought about doing that this year.

We always have a low-key Christmas that probably looks like skipping. No decorating, the family gets together for a meal we all like that isn't too hard to make, presents are traded and we sit around, chit-chat, watch TV and eat.

I might get roped into something, but right now I’m just planning on watching TV with the dog on Christmas Eve/Day. I live decently far from my family, and I don’t enjoy spending time with them. I also worked the past three Christmases and had a professional excuse for not going home for the holidays. I don’t have to work this year, but I still don’t want to go. 😅

Our Christmas tradition is getting a pizza, watching movies, and/or playing video games.

I decided to just stop observing the holiday in about 2006. Sometimes the weather is good and schedules work out so I can visit family, but it's not about the holiday itself at all. No one gets me gifts, finally! but it took a long time to convince them I'm serious. Honestly? Best decision. Choosing your level of participation is a life-saver, you can always pick up again or slowly ease your way back into it if you want, or not, manage your expectations and energy levels on your own time.

I'm on a cruise in the sub-Antarctic.

My family is too far south and my husband, being a postal worker, isn't getting any time off (oh, he got some of his union-mandated time, a couple weeks' worth, but pointedly NOT around Christmas itself!).

But hey, at least Nosferatu will be playing close to home.
