Re: Kids media that holds up
(Anonymous) 2024-12-22 09:56 am (UTC)(link)It's a comfort film, and I think it's aged fairly well. I feel like it didn't pander to kids and as an adult I enjoyed the romcom aspect of the parents' story. And Meredith is the perfect bitchy villain!
It's been a while since I've watched "Now and Then" (1995), so I would like to hear what other FS visitors think about it aging well? I loved it when I was a kid.
"Little Women" (1994)
I want to like the 2019 adaptation but my rose tinted goggles for the 1994 version just makes it pale in comparison.
"The Secret Garden" (1993)
I still remember sitting in my 2nd grade class watching this movie!!! Such a beautiful film. The obnoxious brat child in both Mary and Colin has the depth to see them grow when called out and given a chance to improve.
A little random but I haven't watched "Willow" (1988) or "Legend" (1985) since I was a little kid. I saw "Legend" when I was like 4 and for quite a few years I believed unicorns were real because I saw "Legend" and I couldn't comprehend how a movie could have faked a unicorn horn on a horse.
I would love to hear if anyone has any opinions on if these films have held up?
"A Little Princess" (1995)
The ending always pulls my heartstrings.
I read "The Outsiders" earlier this year, and I hadn't read it since 8th grade social studies class XD and I was impressed by the strong narrative and high drama. It holds up and has timeless themes (sadly).
I haven't been able to watch the 1983 film because the book made me cry, I don't know how well I'd handle young Ralph Macchio as Danny.
I want to say "Labyrinth" (1986) has held up well but that ending still makes me a little sad. I remember even as a kid feeling disappointed that the movie ended in a dance party with the Muppets.
I still enjoy "Home Alone" (1990) and "Home Alone 2" (1992) a lot.
I mean...do I have to say "The Addams Family" (1991) and "The Addams Family Values" (1993) still hold up? They've been Halloween classics forever.
And I actually really love "Street Fighter" (1994) because it's a goofy 80s action film.
I'm going to stop because I'm realizing I watched a lot of films as a kid. LOL

(Anonymous) 2024-12-22 09:57 am (UTC)(link)*Correction: "Street Fighter" is a corny 90s movie but my thumb hit the wrong digit and I didn't catch it.
Re: Kids media that holds up
(Anonymous) 2024-12-22 10:03 am (UTC)(link)I just really wanted to add, "Honey, I Shrunk the Kids" because I watched this a couple years ago and I loved it. I really appreciated the more mature themes I didn't pick up on as a kid.
The parents were separated/not getting along. The neighbor dad wants to impart some dumb idea of masculinity on his son but overcomes that shallow idea by the end of the film. The bratty kids have good redemption arcs. The effects are still cool as fuck!!
