Mouthwashing fandom is so wild. There's people in there who freak out at people who say that they found Jimmy interesting as a character (which is understandable since you play the majority of the game from his very fucked up and biased perspective), and somehow interpret that as him being not-guilty for the things he did.

I literally only lurk to look through the memes and art - otherwise I'm staying the fuck out from the unnecessary drama that pops up.

I recently had the epiphany that thinking liking a character means thinking they're a good person and role model is a common non-fandom, normie attitude. My parents used to get worried whenever I liked a villain character and once yelled at me for it demanding to know why. With fandom becoming more mainstream, normies are now putting that viewpoint into fandom.

da

I feel like it was an accomplishment for fandom to ever develop and assert a contrasting view. I completely agree that feeling close to a character has nothing to do with thinking they fit some narrow "good person" mold, though, and also like that's how it has to be. If you could befriend actual people by doing the same approved, following-a-generic-social-script for it, they wouldn't be people at all. We just inevitably like different things, and warmth and closeness are not "deserved rewards" for good behavior. But a surprising number of people who are approaching the question with their brains and not their feelings think otherwise. Or at least, that's what I suspect is going on.
