I can see it, sadly. People will demand action and the demand have spent years positioning themselves as the party of passivity and waiting for the system. The GOP has posititioned itself as the party of action and passion. In a crisis, that is more likely to resonate with the general public.

I assume that should be "Democrats" but yeah, as much as I understand the need to follow the rules, the need for civility, and I would never preach against it... Dems also need real backup plans for a time when that shit doesn't work. Because the other team's been pretty clear for a while that they aren't playing by the rules. And they're laughing as Dems hold themselves accountable like good responsible adults so that a stupid populace that... apparently? ... doesn't give enough of a shit to save themselves from fascist rule... will *notice* what a good example that the good little Dems are setting.

It shouldn't *be* a weakness, but in these last few years, it has been their greatest weakness.

(Although, if I were a Democrat, I would use that to my advantage. The public perception of me, that is. Pretend I was feeble while secretly exploiting the shit out of some loophole and causing irreparable damage to the other side, and then when they put on their surprised Pikachu face, I'd be like, "what, you thought I was gonna be some weak little bitch?")

Like it's fucking sweet and all that they want to put faith in the people. I want to do that too. But the people have to be well-equipped with the knowledge and the ability and freedom to do the (non-politically) right thing. Otherwise, we end up with two (political) right wings and we keep flying in circles until we all crash (except presumably billionaires, who intend to use the rest of us as cushions).
