Why does Ariana Grande look like she's in really bad Bridgerton cosplay?

- the very high/empire waist on the dress gives a very regency silhouette, but Arianna is so flat + boring neckline means that the way the empire waist normally flatters the bust doesn't happen

- the long satin gloves are pretty rare today even in formal/red carpet wear, giving another "period piece!" clue to your brain, but the dress doesn't actually have regency finishings or embellishments, so it just looks like two plain blocks of fabric instead of a finished historical-ish garment

- idk if it's just the lighting or because it's a still image, but the skirt seems kinda dull and stiff, and the sallow cream color is not flattering, and it shows every shadow. it looks wrinkled instead of smooth and ethereal, even if it isn't

- the little asymmetrical detail where the hemline rises up on her right side into a ruffle disrupts the "smooth column" look of a regency gown enough to look wrong, but not dramatically enough to seem like an intentional departur
