Re: Things that make you irrationally angry at retailers when shopping

Yeah, seriously. I used to work near my dad's work and we would frequently go to Starbucks together, and he would usually put whatever change they gave him back after paying into the tip jar and I used to get so annoyed with him. Making your coffee, putting it on the counter and calling your name is their fucking job. They're not doing any service above and beyond what they get paid for; they're not waiting on you. Giving them a tip is just willingly throwing money away as far as I'm concerned. (Obviously it was his money and it didn't affect me, but it still seemed dumb to me...after he did it one too many times in front of my mom, who obviously was affected by it, he stopped doing it.)

I mean, if he was just tipping change then it's just as likely that he's like a lot of people and doesn't like carrying around coins. However, in general the only time I think it makes sense to tip at Starbucks is if you're ordering multiple drinks in one go or if you're ordering something that's heavily customized.

ayrt

No, that would make sense. He would usually get several dollars back and put them in the jar, and he just got plain black coffee so it's not like it was even anything complicated. It was always weird to me since it's not like my parents were rich and he would go to Starbucks literally every day (sometimes twice a day on Saturdays) and leave tips. But he finally stopped the tips after my mom yelled at him for it and he doesn't go to Starbucks that often anymore, anyway.
