Have you ever bought something advertised by a creator/influencer you followed? Did you do it because you already wanted it and they had a coupon or were you literally influenced? Did you do extensive additional research as well before buying?

I signed up for a VPN service from a creator's sponsorship (honestly forgot who the creator was), but I'd already been wanting to sign up for one. I just happened to have the energy/time/funds on a random day last year to sign up.

I love the idea of meal delivery services so I signed up for the one that gets advertised super often from a podcast I liked. It was fine. But when the low priced trial period ran out I switched to the second most popular option that hardly ever advertises. The quality/price is a little better, probably because they aren't burning cash on advertising.

Never. I can't think of a single person on the internet who tried to step into the role of "being an influencer" that I didn't dump on the spot. Life's too short to deal with people telling the world something is good because they're being paid to say that.

I think advertising is unavoidably dishonest and completely obsolete. The only people I trust to make product recommendations are people I know, in person, well enough to expect the only products they'll talk favorably about are ones they bought with their own money and had no reason to regret or feel tricked by. And that's the standard I hold myself to, if someone asks me to give them advice on buying anything.
