We can only hope. My biggest issue with Democrats (at least a lot of the ones 'in power') is that they just don't seem to have any damn SPINE. They want so badly to be seen as bipartisan, accommodating, understanding, blah blah blah, that they never really seem to put the gloves on and FIGHT.

I really need them to start getting fucking mean.

There's been a lot of criticism like this over the last few months. For their sake, they'd better be listening.

I agree. But at the same time, anyone who decided to either vote for Trump or not vote for all because of this is a selfish idiot. Whatever issues Democrats have, they don't come close to the downright evil of Republicans.

Then what is the incentive for Dems not to do that? Because if you are gonna vote for them whether they are a passive spineless toadies or not, then why should they not be spineless passive toadies and just collect their lobbying fees and do nothing?

OK but what are they supposed to get mean about? What are they fighting for? It used to be working Americans. IDEK who they're fighting for anymore.

You are talking as if the working class are the only people discriminated against. Standing up for minorities doesn't mean not standing up for the working class too. Both are possible. Can even stand up for women as well.

The wealthy want us to be fighting each other rather than them.

...In an oligarchy, they are. The working class comprises the majority of Americans. The working class includes minorities and women. You're right that the wealthy want us fighting, and playing these intersectional games is feeding right into that.

And yet there are other things that can disadvantage people and make it more likely for them to be part of the working class. Race is a big one. It is impossible to deal with the wealth gap in this country without recognizing the impact that racism has on that.

Being part of the 99% is what disadvantages people. That used to be a big deal. Remember Occupy? That was an inconvenient movement for the 1%, and I don't think it's any coincidence that it was supplanted by race and gender wars in the 2010s.

It wasn't supplanted. People are still fighting for that, they just recognize that both can be fought for at the same time. And if you genuinely think being black doesn't make you more likely to be part of the 99% than if you are white, you are just ignorant.

Re: Democrat politicians

(Anonymous) 2025-01-23 02:56 am (UTC)(link)
It's true that the 1% is majority white.

And I'd also add that Trump is part of the 1% and pro-wealthy, pro-business, anti-worker. So anyone who voted for him because they don't like that Democrats are standing up for minorities is stupid.

Intersectionality is important and needs to exist. Many things can be true at once. It's not JUST a class war, or JUST a race war, or any number of things.

Re: Democrat politicians

(Anonymous) 2025-01-23 05:51 am (UTC)(link)
But minorities were never gonna get any help unless the white lower middle and working classes were already also getting fucked in the ass hard. That is what Trump is, and why ya gotta love it, it is the great leveling of making sure the middle and working class gets motivated and put on the same team as the rest of us. Now, the trick this time, is to make sure LGBT and trans people in particular, don't get left behind in the releveling afterwards, or we're gonna do this again and drag your ass down again until you carry us first. Rise together, or more Trump. Learn it, middle class America.

They only do that when it's about tearing each other down, weirdly enough.

Re: Democrat politicians

(Anonymous) 2025-01-23 08:30 am (UTC)(link)
Totally agree, I've felt this way for years. Democrats and their whole trying to be the bigger/better person and play by the rules and "we don't want to stoop to their level" stuff is so frustrating. Like, sure, maybe it's noble and morally correct or whatever, but the people they're against don't give a fuck about that stuff, so being nice and wanting to work with them gets us absolutely nowhere.

Re: Democrat politicians

(Anonymous) 2025-01-23 04:32 pm (UTC)(link)
A small part of me is hoping that *is* part of their plan. Sticking to their M.O. in public while doing something different in private that's aimed toward fighting the oligarch/fascist threat. But obviously, there's nothing indicating this.

Worst case (or maybe best, who the hell knows), maybe the public will see they're better off without Republicans or Democrats and can exist without parties and/or govern ourselves. That said... if some of the more progressive ones were to break off from the Democratic party and start their own party, I'd probably join it tomorrow.
