Democrat politicians

(Anonymous) 2025-01-23 01:47 am (UTC)(link)
Do they have any gameplan whatsoever? I want to think they do.

Last time, I trusted the sane Republicans. Now I'm not sure I think there are any anymore.

Their plan at the moment seems to be to go along with "more reasonable" (supposedly) Republican stuff in the hope that they can use that later. Except Republicans have proven time and time again that doesn't work.

Exactly. The GOP is perfectly happy to lie through their teeth and pull a bait and switch. And the Dems fall for it every damn time.

We can only hope. My biggest issue with Democrats (at least a lot of the ones 'in power') is that they just don't seem to have any damn SPINE. They want so badly to be seen as bipartisan, accommodating, understanding, blah blah blah, that they never really seem to put the gloves on and FIGHT.

I really need them to start getting fucking mean.

Re: Democrat politicians

(Anonymous) 2025-01-23 02:08 am (UTC)(link)
There's been a lot of criticism like this over the last few months. For their sake, they'd better be listening.

Re: Democrat politicians

(Anonymous) 2025-01-23 02:15 am (UTC)(link)
I agree. But at the same time, anyone who decided to either vote for Trump or not vote for all because of this is a selfish idiot. Whatever issues Democrats have, they don't come close to the downright evil of Republicans.

Re: Democrat politicians

(Anonymous) 2025-01-23 05:33 am (UTC)(link)
Then what is the incentive for Dems not to do that? Because if you are gonna vote for them whether they are a passive spineless toadies or not, then why should they not be spineless passive toadies and just collect their lobbying fees and do nothing?

Re: Democrat politicians

(Anonymous) 2025-01-23 02:23 am (UTC)(link)
OK but what are they supposed to get mean about? What are they fighting for? It used to be working Americans. IDEK who they're fighting for anymore.

You are talking as if the working class are the only people discriminated against. Standing up for minorities doesn't mean not standing up for the working class too. Both are possible. Can even stand up for women as well.

The wealthy want us to be fighting each other rather than them.

Re: Democrat politicians

(Anonymous) 2025-01-23 02:38 am (UTC)(link)
...In an oligarchy, they are. The working class comprises the majority of Americans. The working class includes minorities and women. You're right that the wealthy want us fighting, and playing these intersectional games is feeding right into that.

Re: Democrat politicians

And yet there are other things that can disadvantage people and make it more likely for them to be part of the working class. Race is a big one. It is impossible to deal with the wealth gap in this country without recognizing the impact that racism has on that.

Re: Democrat politicians

(Anonymous) 2025-01-23 02:50 am (UTC)(link)
Being part of the 99% is what disadvantages people. That used to be a big deal. Remember Occupy? That was an inconvenient movement for the 1%, and I don't think it's any coincidence that it was supplanted by race and gender wars in the 2010s.

Re: Democrat politicians

[personal profile] philstar22 2025-01-23 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
It wasn't supplanted. People are still fighting for that, they just recognize that both can be fought for at the same time. And if you genuinely think being black doesn't make you more likely to be part of the 99% than if you are white, you are just ignorant.

Re: Democrat politicians

But minorities were never gonna get any help unless the white lower middle and working classes were already also getting fucked in the ass hard. That is what Trump is, and why ya gotta love it, it is the great leveling of making sure the middle and working class gets motivated and put on the same team as the rest of us. Now, the trick this time, is to make sure LGBT and trans people in particular, don't get left behind in the releveling afterwards, or we're gonna do this again and drag your ass down again until you carry us first. Rise together, or more Trump. Learn it, middle class America.

They only do that when it's about tearing each other down, weirdly enough.

Re: Democrat politicians

(Anonymous) 2025-01-23 08:30 am (UTC)(link)
Totally agree, I've felt this way for years. Democrats and their whole trying to be the bigger/better person and play by the rules and "we don't want to stoop to their level" stuff is so frustrating. Like, sure, maybe it's noble and morally correct or whatever, but the people they're against don't give a fuck about that stuff, so being nice and wanting to work with them gets us absolutely nowhere.

Re: Democrat politicians

(Anonymous) 2025-01-23 04:32 pm (UTC)(link)
A small part of me is hoping that *is* part of their plan. Sticking to their M.O. in public while doing something different in private that's aimed toward fighting the oligarch/fascist threat. But obviously, there's nothing indicating this.

Worst case (or maybe best, who the hell knows), maybe the public will see they're better off without Republicans or Democrats and can exist without parties and/or govern ourselves. That said... if some of the more progressive ones were to break off from the Democratic party and start their own party, I'd probably join it tomorrow.

Re: Democrat politicians

(Anonymous) 2025-01-23 01:56 am (UTC)(link)
Not sure. I'm hoping it's less "ohai giv mun$$$ plz" every four years and more "hey maybe we should do that thing we used to do and connect with the working class on a regular basis." But more importantly not putting appearances above country, its people, and its Constitution.

Space Karen is turning into a proper global villain. Maybe when this becomes more obvious, we might have a common enemy between all of us (including the right) and might actually unite for something.

Don't mind me, just rambling here.

Re: Democrat politicians

Besides hanging onto their jobs (and commensurate salaries) until they can retire or die in office? I doubt it.

Re: Democrat politicians

(Anonymous) 2025-01-23 05:25 am (UTC)(link)
Just as a heads up, it is fairly uncommon for Democrats to refer to "Democrat politicians" or "the Democrat party" or whatever; the usage that blends in is "the Democratic party," or "the Democratic president," or "the Democratic whatever."

Democrat ______ or the democrat ______ are more closely associated with disinfo campaigns, including state-sponsored ones, and to some extent with Republicans and others who picked the usage up from them.

Re: Democrat politicians

(Anonymous) 2025-01-23 05:37 am (UTC)(link)
That is bullshit. It may have been true once, maybe, fifty years ago when Du-cockless was running against Ronnie, but it hasn't been true for decades since.

Re: Democrat politicians

(Anonymous) 2025-01-23 08:20 am (UTC)(link)
It absolutely is not bullshit, it's grammar. It's inconsistent, yes, but Republican is both a noun and an adjective, while Democrat is the noun and Democratic is the adjective. And the person you're replying to is right, using Democrat as an adjective is something that's done by a specific group. It's kind of like how anti-Ukraine/pro-Russia people will say "The" Ukraine instead of just Ukraine.

Re: Democrat politicians

AYRT:I'm a Democrat! Reconsidering my language now.

Re: Democrat politicians

(Anonymous) 2025-01-23 02:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I've heard people complain about this... on here. Irl I hear "democrat" as an adjective all the time by people of various political views. It may not be technically correct but it is common usage and not necessarily indicative of the poster being right wing or lying. Just pay attention to the content of what they're saying.

To rollover and do as they are told by their donors.

Also civility, bipartisanship, wait for the system, blah, blah, blah.
