It's because people are more aware now. They realize that Baldoni is using the same PR team and tactics as Depp.

I was always an Amber Heard believer cuz Depp is scuzzy as fuck.

I was on team "both are flawed people and neither are angels" for a long time, but even if I don't love Heard, people who defended Depp to the end made me raise an eyebrow. Do they not remember or care about his relationship with Winona Ryder?

(Anonymous) 2025-01-25 08:06 am (UTC)(link)
As much as Heard truthers don't remember or care that she was abusive to a former partner as well. They both suck equally.

semi-OT, relating to Lively: I get that there was an online campaign against Lively to sway public opinion, but like, no one made her be a bitch to interviewers? She just seems mean in some of the interview clips I saw. *shrugs* I guess the campaign worked on me?

(Anonymous) 2025-01-26 03:02 pm (UTC)(link)
the interviewer deserved it.

I thought these were the same person, just different haor and makeup. I have no idea who they are. Is one amber heard?

Amber Heard and Blake Lively

Thank you

Depp had been beloved, megafamous, and starred in cult hit films for decades by the time he and Heard broke up. How many people had heard of Boldoni before this scandal? A lot fewer I bet.

(Anonymous) 2025-01-25 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
I think they were both victimized, but I think the circumstances make it easier to empathize with Lively, who was abused in a professional setting, so it really is a MeToo case rather than a case of two people in a destructive relationship that may or may not have begun with a power imbalance on set.

(Anonymous) 2025-01-25 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
How was Heard victimized? Yes, there was overwhelmingly negative press. But she lost in court. And the evidence, even what the public was let to see, was fairly overwhelming that while there was some back and forth, she was clearly the main abuser.

And I say this as someone who generally believes women and at first believed Heard. And thinks Depp is a dick who was abusive to Winona Rider.

I guess it comes down to whether you believe there can be two victims and two abusers in a case of domestic abuse. Anyway, my takeaway from the trial was that was the case.

(Anonymous) 2025-01-25 01:51 am (UTC)(link)
She won most of her cases. The one she "lost" he also lost, just not as much. He didn't "win" in any of the cases.

(Anonymous) 2025-01-25 02:08 am (UTC)(link)
She won the case in the UK. That case ruled that he had assaulted Heard in 12 of the 14 incidents he was accused of. Much of the evidence from that case wasn't allowed in the US trial. I suggest reading up on it.

I think she engaged in reactive abuse but I don't think it was clear that she was the main abuser at all.

(Anonymous) 2025-01-25 08:07 am (UTC)(link)
She abused a former partner as well, it's totally on brand for her to be an abuser.

(Anonymous) 2025-01-25 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
I think if people had been paying attention years earlier when it was first reported about the fake bruises and the bed shitting, the Depp and Heard debacle would have gone differently and much sooner. But for whatever reason none of that stuff really got any traction in the media or with the general public until the year before the big trial. So a lot of people spent years believing her despite the fact it was already proven that she was faking (at that time it was all surrounding a single incident).
The Lively and Baldoni stuff is really very different. Too different. They both have released “proof” although hers is damning and his seems to prove he’s lying about them taking over the production. (Even though they really probably did. I’m honestly expecting it to come out in court that it was in response to the documented problems on set.)

Amber Heard being on tape admitting to being an abuser, and that she planned to use the fact that he was a man to get away with it probably dented her credibility some.

(Anonymous) 2025-01-25 05:13 am (UTC)(link)
Finding out she didn't donate the money she said she would (to a hospital at the start of covid even) and hooking up with Elon Musk didn't help much either.

(Anonymous) 2025-01-25 05:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Hard to donate your extra money when you're being bankrupted by your abusive ex's court cases against you.

(Anonymous) 2025-01-25 05:22 pm (UTC)(link)
That is not what happened. She was mocking the idea that she could be the abuser, with sarcasm.

(Anonymous) 2025-01-25 05:10 am (UTC)(link)
I mean, Lively is getting dragged through the mud (recent interview about doing blackface is circling ontd and reddit via tiktok) and she probably will not come out the other side with a career. (note: even if she's a racist bitch she doesn't deserve to be sexually harassed) But also the dude (I've been following this for months and I still don't remember his name) released some onset footage that supposedly counters one of her stories. So there could be some wild swings in public opinions, who's to say what'll come next?

But in general there are three things:
1) the accusations are pretty tame so they can be mentioned in full in articles/videos/posts without editing or trigger warnings so everyone can be told the whole story without metaphor or censoring.

2) She's been a star for 20 years. Most people don't know who she is but there is a huge group of folks (GG fans) who know of her.

3) The Ryan Reynolds of it all - she has the money and support to to keep herself out there in public. And the guy she's accusing is like 4 steps down the ladder from BL/RR as a couple, even if not that much lower than BL herself.

She's been a star for 20 years?
She's not a star. That's really pushing it.

it's a mixture of the fame imbalance (lively and reynolds have more fame than baldoni, where it was the opposite of depp and heard, see also pitt and jolie, where pitt is more beloved than jolie), the fact that believing reactive violence as an "equal" evil is a more comfortable psychological position for third parties who are uncomfortable with their fave's domestic violence, even though provoking reactive violence is a common tactic of abusers to make their victims unsympathetic to third-parties (which favored depp), the fact that lively is presumed straight and has a man backing her up (and heard and jolie are not and do not), and the fact that this happened after people realized that they were being manipulated to disbelieve heard online, and information about pitt's domestic violence ironically kept coming up because he drew out their divorce (another common tactic of abusers is to use the legal system as weapon, see depp losing the first case and subsequently taking advantage that virginia doesn't have anti-slapp laws for his second) so that people had prior experience with those tactics.

(Anonymous) 2025-01-26 03:01 pm (UTC)(link)
i knew baldoni was a fake fuck when he hired the same team that made a twice convicted abuser out to be the hero (and i do mean johnny).
