it's a mixture of the fame imbalance (lively and reynolds have more fame than baldoni, where it was the opposite of depp and heard, see also pitt and jolie, where pitt is more beloved than jolie), the fact that believing reactive violence as an "equal" evil is a more comfortable psychological position for third parties who are uncomfortable with their fave's domestic violence, even though provoking reactive violence is a common tactic of abusers to make their victims unsympathetic to third-parties (which favored depp), the fact that lively is presumed straight and has a man backing her up (and heard and jolie are not and do not), and the fact that this happened after people realized that they were being manipulated to disbelieve heard online, and information about pitt's domestic violence ironically kept coming up because he drew out their divorce (another common tactic of abusers is to use the legal system as weapon, see depp losing the first case and subsequently taking advantage that virginia doesn't have anti-slapp laws for his second) so that people had prior experience with those tactics.
