I've heard it called "Irish spaghetti" or "poor man's pasta" - it was cheaper for big families to use ketchup than buy actual sauce. I grew up in a big Irish Catholic family and we had tomato sauce maybe once or twice a year, but pasta with ketchup was a regular growing up. It's not a comfort food I crave like once every five years or so.
