The only people I know who use the word "hinky" in real life are my Trump-supporting aunt and uncle. So I think use of the word "hinky" is pretty hinky. Perhaps you were raised with some internalized right-wing values that you still hold subconsciously.

Age gaps all on their own aren't inherently bad, sure. But they're a common thing in abusive/toxic relationships. Interpreting it as a red flag isn't necessarily wrong.

One red flag does not a shitty relationship make, but viewing it as a reason to be extra critical is valid.
