AO3

Do you download fic? If yes, what format do you prefer?

I used to download everything and had a highly organized fic filing system, but then I got lazy when ao3 came around and just started bookmarking. I just got a new PC and am having a grand time organizing folders and files and downloading things like it's 1999.

I download mobi out of habit because it used to be the only way to side load it onto a Kindle. I think Kindle can now read a few different formats that AO3 offers.

I download in HTML. I never dl'ed fic before, so thank you, AO3!

Re: AO3

Yup. I either download as HTML and copy that over into a document file, or I copy-paste from the fic itself on Ao3 and save it as a document file. All of them go into various fandom/ship/character folders for me to re-read whenever I feel like it. I don't save everything, just the fics I really like that I know I'll want to re-read again at some point.

I've got 1500+ fics downloaded. In MOBI format. Got them organized by fandom/ship.

PDF sorted by fandom

Re: AO3

(Anonymous) 2025-02-18 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
No. I would just accumulate a lot of files and never take the time to reread them. In 25 years in fandom, there are maybe ~5 fics I regret I can't revisit because their authors took them down. I make sure I keep multiple backups of my own writing. Everything else, I accept it might disappear someday.

Epub. I don't understand people that download pdfs.

You know what's weird? I don't think I've ever read a piece of fanfic twice. I've never saved or printed anything, because I never saw the need. I've bookmarked things on AO3, but it's because I feel like adding a bookmark onto a comment and kudos conveys that I really, really liked the piece, and could help give it a boost when others find it in a search. I never intend to actually read the story again.

I DL as PDFs because I find them easy to read.

Re: AO3

(Anonymous) 2025-02-18 02:33 pm (UTC)(link)
I read almost all my fics on my kindle, so I download in .mobi from AO3.
I also download from other smaller archives and usually they have either .pdf or .epub and I prefer .epub because it's more versatile and simpler to convert in other formats.
I ALSO go scavenging the old web something for rare old fics and that's when you have to do the CRTL + A > CRTL + C > CTRL + V > CRTL + S > "asdfghjkl001.txt" dance we all love LOL

Let's see. Got a ton of work done today. 2 motions and 1 asylum packet (supporting evidence) filed. And finalized preparation for bond hearing I have on Friday. I think we can get this guy out. Also got 2 new clients and talked with another attorney who is going to bring us some more.

I'm getting on a weight loss drug. Ozempic. Due to my neurological diagnosis, it is recommended and the insurance will cover. Pretty happy personally.

Right now my biggest plans/dreams are for clients. The bond hearing on Friday and then two upcoming asylum final hearings. Those two are really strong cases, I think we have a good chance of getting them asylum and letting them stay in the US.

I have to keep hope. It is the clients I can help that make it worth it. Right now I'm feeling good.

Also trying to schedule a massage for this Saturday. Because self care is important too.

I am feeling really proud of my prgress learning to crochet! Going to try and make a hat later this week - I have a couple new hook sizes and stitch markers on order and just waiting for those to arrive!

I just found out I will have a week off in June so I am looking into trips to take (though the multiple plane crashes un the US is making me a little nervous to fly...).

And I had today off so long weekend/short work week ftw!

I asked someone to help me find my biological family and it’s going really well. I may finally know my parents’ names within the next few days!

I fell a bit behind on my photo sorting schedule in the last couple weeks but got caught up tonight! Today's counseling session was also helpful (and gave me a new phrase to use: precursors of hope).

Husband's cousin with Down Syndrome is visiting and I've gotten used to his speech after a couple of days so we can have good convos. What a cool kid. I made him a shirley temple with dinner and he's really enjoying the shit out of his "favorite wedding drink." What a doll, lol.

What's something you changed your mind on over time? Politically, ideologically or just plain mundane.
