I’m into hiking and backpacking so I love r/backpacking and r/ultralight as well as some of the major trail subs like r/pacificcresttrail.
I wanted to build my own gaming PC so I joined a few pc gaming subs including r/buildapc which was an invaluable resource for me. Just yesterday I was on there reading old posts after searching “scared” because I have everything but am too intimidated to actually build. It was reassuring to see how common that is for first timers and people who are returning after a long time.

r/animalsbeingbros and r/animalsbeingjerks are my favorite non hobby and non fandom subs.

I love my city sub because I get all the tea without having to get involved in any drama.

And for fandom, it’s been great for me. But every fandom is different so ymmv. The gaming subs I’m in are especially awesome and for one of my games I’m pretty active in helping newer players, which has been good for me.

I also check in on book subs a lot even if I haven’t joined them. r/fantasy, r/suggestmeabook, and r/whatsthatbook are my favorites. Oh and I like r/kindle because outside of that sub I’m in the minority by exclusively using my Kindle to read and people can be pretty snotty and even shitty about me using an ereader. But on r/kindle, it’s like a constant celebration of everything I love about using an ereader.

If you have a hobby do a search for it. All the smaller hobby subs have been such great communities ime. R/crochet and r/crochethelp have been great as I start to learn crochet.

R/ireadabookandadoredit is a fun little sub for sharing a book you enjoyed or seeing other users recs.

r/marijuanaenthusiasts if you like trees - just pictures of and learning about. The name always gives me a laugh too.

My travel specific subs I like include r/solotravel r/shoestring r/onebag and r/heronebag

Some random ones that have a good vibe: r/mapmaking r/patientgamers r/AIDKE
