This is something I've also been thinking a lot about. I feel like it dovetails into the culture of optimization, the idea that we're supposed to be some "best version" not only of ourselves but also of the human race. What is that "best version," and who benefits from it?

What counts as "normal?" Someone who's always happy, who's career-driven, who is content to both multitask and perform repetitive tasks for hours on end, who treats personally relationships as transactional... It's basically a fucking cyborg, not a human being. And that cyborg exists to help prop up some capitalist enterprise, not to lift a fulfilling life themselves.
