Anyway, I've BEEN a lefty. I was a default lefty for years, and I AM ashamed. I was a horrible person, I hated so passionately, so freely, and without rest. I was capable of knowing cruelty and inhumanity that literally sickens me to this day. And all with the clear conscience of someone who knew the people I hated deserved it because they were worse.
Could be I'm not a better person today, likey people don't change and I'm just the same shithead I was in my youth. I'm sure you KNOW I am. But I'll tell you this: I haven't felt real hatred at anyone in years. Nearly decades. I've been angry, I've been angry, sure, sometimes for a second, occasionally a couple of hours if its been particularly bad and personal. But I just dont have it in me to spend days hating people I dont know. I think because instead of being trapped in the sunk cost of needing to prove my hate was righteous and thus needing to force it to double down... Now I just let myself be with the calmness and security's of someone who knows they act in accordance with their conscience.
All of that to ask: Honestly, when was the last time you went a whole day without feeling hate? Righteous or not, fair or not, just a day without even a moments pure personal rage and that destructive vindictive urge and the consuming wish you could just physically or metaphysically unmake a person?
Lie to me if you want to save face, but think on it a little.

"You always own the option of having no opinion. There is never any need to get worked up or to trouble your soul about things you can't control. These things are not asking to be judged by you. Leave them alone."
And
"You have power over your mind - not outside events. Realize this, and you will find strength."
I CARE about things, but I don't need to be controlled by the things I care about. I still care about injustices, and I still prefer that they be remedied. But I understand a little better these days how injustices happen, and it's NEVER because I didn't hate someone enough.
But you're right, hate is not inherently a problem, it's appropriate to hate bad things. Just like it's appropriate to drink alcohol at a celebration. But have you ever looked around and noticed how many drunkards we have?

"You're not a lefty because you don't care about people"
"But I DO care about people"
"you can't REALLY care about people"
"Why not?"
"Because the only way to care about people that I acknowledge is to be a lefty"
Your definition of caring is based on your political party, and your political party is your proof of caring. It's all internal to your worldview where nothing from the outside can penetrate the circle to prove you wrong. There can be no caring without compliance to your beliefs.
It's practically Christian in it's self serving definitions. "Good people are Christians" "Here's a good person who's not a Christian" "I don't believe he really IS a good person, because if he was he'd already be a Christian".
And the /really/ impressive thing is your lot reverse-engineered this philosophy rather than inheriting it directly from a religion.
