I liked The Talented Mr. Ripley film more than the book.

In the book, I found all the characters to be pretty unlikeable. I thought the story was interesting, but I was emotionally distant from the drama playing out.

In the movie, the characters were a lot more endearing. I enjoyed being vicariously seduced by Tom’s charm. And seeing what he could fall for in Dickie. Okay, and I also liked the more explicit homoromantic undertones.

I don’t think any of that makes it a better story, but it was more fun and more engaging for me.
