I normally like the book and the movie equally if I enjoy the adaptation and some movie adaptations I really like as stand alone movies but as an adaptation they're.... not exactly accurate, lol.

I'm not sure how books by their very nature are more interesting though, sure they make you use your imagination but there are many books that are very, very simple in execution and really not overly interesting.

Honestly I think this is more of how good an adaptation is, versus any substantial book>movie thing tbh. It's really dependant on how it's directed and what changes are enacted to accommodate a different media style. There are plenty of movies in which many would say they liked better than the book and vice versa due to adaptation issues/poor acting/etc.

Well, that may be true. Or that may be true for just that particular story. Or that particular adaptation just works for them in some way the book didn't - they really liked the visuals, or they really didn't like something in the book that the movie got rid of, or the movie changed a character enough that it didn't remind them of someone in real-life, or the book felt rambly to them, or the dinosaurs were frickin' awesome (yeah, I know you probably weren't talking about Jurassic Park), or the music added so much to the story, or the movie made them realize something about the story that they didn't pick up from the book, etc.

I think part of it is if it's the student initiating, it's easier for the reader to believe that this is a genuine romance type of story. Lots of stories where it's the student initiating have the teacher react negatively and tell the student to wait til they're older or until they graduate at the very least, and whether the student listens or not, is the student's actions, not the teacher's. There's usually no intent on the teacher's part to prey on a student/child

If it's the teacher initiating and pursuing a student, it's the same building blocks, but different kink. Teacher that initiate are well aware of power and age dynamics but don't care enough about them to NOT be predators, and that's a different character trope and story genre entirely
