Stephen King movies are such a mixed bag. I think the ones that take a little more leeway tend to do better than the ones that try to be super faithful adaptations, but I’m not sure if that’s down to writing or budget in some cases. Like, I don’t think the main problem with The Langoliers was that it stuck too close to the book, you know?

Yeah, I tend to agree, though some adaptations did better than others. Stand By Me is probably my favorite, though it's not an exact adaptation at all. The Shawshank Redemption was a great movie, and fairly close to the book. Ditto The Green Mile, I think - it's been too long since I read the book(s) and can't remember how close the movie was.

But IMO all the best adaptations of Stephen King stories weren't the horror ones.
