I am reading two books right now. Jurassic Park and The Deep! And too many fanfics to count.

Nearly finished with Ponyboy by Eliot Duncan and kind of feel mixed about it (not necessarily bad, but I nearly stopped reading it because of the amount of drugs the main character goes through - which I get why in the story, but it just got a little too under my skin for really stupid reasons. Close to the end so I'm still going to finish it).

I'm trying to decide what to read next: a non-fiction book called It Came From the Closet: Queer Reflections on Horror edited by Joe Vallese or The Lion Witch and the Wardrobe series (been meaning to read this series for ages).

Still making my way through Dungeon Crawler Carl. Currently on book five and honestly getting kind of sick of Carl. I may have to take break from this series if he doesn't change a bit by the end of this book. Which is a shame because I've really been enjoying them up until now.

Just finished reading Hijra by Saif ur Rehman Raja. It's a very intimate book by a gay Pakistani man immigrant growing up in / currently living in Italy. Not bad! Especially the fist half was very impactful.

As of fanfic, I'm trying to get into the Arcane's Viktor/Jayce ship, but so far I've yet to find a story that really clicks with me. :/

Advice

For other plus-size women, where online do you typically shop? I'm in the market for some new dresses and maybe a few other things, but all the places I usually shop just look all samey and I want to change it up a bit.

I get my dresses from Ureshii (https://ureshiidesign.ca/). They're bespoke and yet surprisingly affordable. They can do customization of the patterns (different sleeves? different neck-line? want pockets?) and you can choose from a selection of fabrics and colors. Just send them your measurements and they'll make it.

I need comfortable, good looking clothes with pockets, so I shop here: https://svahausa.com/
The dresses have held up incredibly well. I don’t do pants, so I can’t speak to them, but I have friends who love their yoga pants.

Fandom Venting

*sigh* I posted a new fic to AO3 yesterday, then took a peek at the stats page out of curiosity this morning... only to see that my user subscription count had gone down :(

What fandom things have got you down lately?

Aww, man. :(

Aww, don't feel too bad. I keep my subs for most of the writers I like, but some won't if they've moved to another fandom and the AO3 email reminds them of this.

AO3 continues to exist.

Glad to know its users are doing their part to make it less popular tho.

Yes, it does. It may not be perfect, but it is better than every single one of the alternatives.

Your hateboner for AO3 is hilarious.

It's not going to lose its popularity, hon.

I am so sorry.
But probably email reminded them that they are no longer in this fandom. Sadly, I do it to.

My vent, I just want some decent porn in my fandom. We have a lot of young people working through their issues, and it's okay, but I am not interested. The other day I've seen one fic that was more to my taste at last aaaaannnnddd it was trans!character. Thanks for tagging and you do you, but that was sort of devastating.

Re: Fandom Venting

(Anonymous) 2025-03-26 08:21 am (UTC)(link)
DA/NAYRT

I've been there. I'm open to kinks/situations not catered to my tastes but in one fandom the smut was always on one end of the other.
A bit too generic and vanilla where it's way too much the same PIV missionary scenarios
Or
Way too much of the hardcore porno type smut commonly depicted in RL porn videos where it's full of details on choking, spitting, degradation, impossible pretzel twisting sex positions

And they can be so boring or too ridiculous.

I've encountered the trans!character thing before too, though the fandoms and pairs I look up tend to be tagged so at least I have that.
Sorry that the fics you read didn't have the tag nonny. I'd be annoyed too.

It's not that I have an issue with trans!characters, it's that I know what smut I like and that isn't one of my kinks or preferences.

Yeah it's happened to me to recently and it does such (although I'm not surprised with my fantom since it's pretty much nearing dead and I keep posting there like a masochist).

I have an old fandom blog that someone had recently mass-reblogged all my fanworks, which I don't mind, but other people have decided to leave some asshole-ish comments that shouldn't bother me - but oh my god how hard is it to ignore something you don't like and actually look at what you do like??
