A lot of comedy has aged badly. Folks of the same generation are far more likely to either have a blind spot to the problematic bits, or just nostalgically enjoy it despite the problems. (Which is not to say that OPs fave comedians are problematic.)

Comedy also relies on shared experiences far more than a lot of entertainment. You don’t have to be from the same culture as the comedian, but it definitely helps.
