Not OP, but I rolled my eyes when she said that Dumbledore was gay even though she didn't actually put it into text (so give her points for that even though she said it years after the books were published and it never went anywhere other than her head - you could be forgiven for thinking she didn't actually think of it until that moment....)

King's Cross sold me on Dumbledore's gayness way before she ever mentioned it.

Honestly, same. I came out of book seven definitely sure he was gay.

It borders on cringey. Like, I felt uncomfortable for Harry when DD wept over Gellert. Considering his constant insistence on the power of love and his remorse over falling in love with the wrong person. Oof.

Also, the sheepish and hesitant way she divulged that detail spoke volumes IMO. At the time, I think she was more concerned about pushback than about looking progressive.

da

Haha, came here to say this. She was acting like it was obvious the whole time. Like, I don't care if he is or not, but there wasn't a whole lot to go on to conclude that (though I'm sure some better than me at spotting subtext will argue CONCLUSIVELY! that this or that event from the books was the smoking gun).

(Anonymous) 2025-04-11 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
How can you argue CONCLUSIVELY! based on subtext?

(Anonymous) 2025-04-11 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
It's a joke.

yeah I assumed after book 7 that he was, but like most things in the last ten years, she didn't handle it well.
