I like raw oysters, but they're not for everyone and I can totally understand being put off by the texture as well as the taste. But yeah, literature sometimes make food sound soooo much better than it does in real life, LOL.

I think the thing about Turkish Delight is that you have to spend over a decade on sugar rationing to get how delicious it could taste.

Can't speak to oysters, have never eaten one.

Raw oysters taste like the ocean, but are kind of...slimy, so you don't really chew them.

Best with a shake of tabasco sauce and a squeeze of lemon on them.

Yeah, I grasped that when I was older, and seeing the food descriptions through that filter was interesting. FWIW, I've had homemade Turkish delight that was very nice!

I grew up in austerity Britain and the food descriptions still really hit home.

Oysters? You (general you) can keep 'em.

Turkish Delight can actually be really lovely if it's fresh. Once it's been in transit for import and sat on a shelf for weeks/months, however...just a sticky sweet dusty blob instead of melt-in-your-mouth delicacy. So most westerners will have only had the Sad Stale version.

Also ymmv depending on your opinion of rose, which is the traditional flavor. But I had some apple-flavored turkish delight when I was actually in Turkey and it was divine.

I like cooked oysters or canned stuff. The watery texture of raw is too weird for me, but I'm open to trying it again.
