I like raw oysters, but they're not for everyone and I can totally understand being put off by the texture as well as the taste. But yeah, literature sometimes make food sound soooo much better than it does in real life, LOL.

I'm realizing in hindsight that the meh oysters we had on Miyajima, harvested from the bay mere hours earlier, were cooked. Raw? Holy fuck why would anyone eat them raw?? If you have to shotgun them like a shot of whiskey, you aren't eating them, you're swallowing the bulk whole without touching your taste buds. That's not eating, that's not even taste-testing a flavor.

For the record, even grilled over a nice little charcoal fire in the shell, oysters really don't have much flavor. So I'm going to join the corner of people who have tried, tested, and are convinced yall are stupid and have tried to pull one over on the poors by claiming there's some sort of taste sensation here that you'll never experience. Nah. Miss me with that. Actual fresh oysters still don't have a flavor, just a texture, and never ever ever eat them raw if the Japanese haute couture grills them instead of eating raw.

I don't live by the ocean so I've only had oysters a few times and every time they were delicious. Briny and a unique fresh ocean taste.

I was a little disappointed with Turkish Delights but as I got older I reminded myself that during WW2 Edmund probably didn't get to eat sweets often and Turkiah Delight is literally just sugar.

I think that's part of the fantastic writing in this series - that it shows how complicated people can be, and that there are many layers to what happens in the show. This situation in particular was really conflicted, because Asif is right to want to protect people even if it means breaking laws by smuggling in refugees who are in danger. But he's wrong to do it the way he did, i.e. by endangering his partner and leaving him out of the decision-making. I agree with you that Sam's choice is portrayed as loving, but he was wronged by not being allowed to make that choice from the beginning, as an equal partner.
