What food do you hate the smell of?

(Anonymous) 2025-06-01 08:55 pm (UTC)(link)
What food do you hate the smell of but love eating?

I hate cooked cabbage. Both the smell and the taste.

I like fried ground beef/pork but I hate the way it smells when you fry it - it's weirdly fishy?

If you're using canola oil to cook it, that might be the culprit. It can give off a fishy odor when subjected to high heat.

Huh. That's interesting because I do use it sometimes. I'll change up the oil next time!

Since getting covid, I HATE the smell of cooking garlic. It still tastes delicious but it stinks when cooking.

I hate the smell and taste of most seafood. Bleck.

Fish sauce is a great umami boost and integral to a lot of dishes in Vietnamese and Thai cooking, but by itself it's pretty gross.

+1 to cooked cabbage, and I'll add mushrooms. They just smell so weird, but taste so good.

Yogurt and bananas.

Cilantro. I have the "bad cilantro" gene I guess, because it smells faintly of chlorine to me.

missing part of the thread starter, I admit I'm not crazy about *eating* it either, though in small doses it can be fine.

Air-fried broccoli. My sister makes it like every day it feels like, and it's nauseating to smell. Tastes fine though.

The smell of cooked broccoli no matter the cooking method is just gross 🤢

Fish. I love eating it, but it usually smells god awful when it’s cooking.

Had a friend (Chinese) whose mother cooked some Chinese fish dish. My friend told me it smelled like hot garbage when it was being cooked but tasted delicious. (Think the fish may have been bass or carp.)

LOL because I'm eating cooked cabbage right now. It's currently my only accessible veggie (didn't make it to the store this week).

Can't think of many foods I hate the smell of, except maybe when it lingers for days?

Anything eggs, but especially hardboiled.

Yes! Most foods that I dislike the smell of, I also dislike the taste of, but eggs is a good example of 'smells kinda bad but tastes good.'

Only kind of eggs I like are fried. I never liked them much, but I was forced to eat scrambled eggs as a child by someone we were staying with. And ever since the smell of eggs makes me sick.

mcdonald's, burger king, most fast foods. i like fries but i can't stand the burger stink and the stink of some fried chicken. even after the food is eaten, the bag it was in still reeks to high heaven. makes me nauseous.

i like seafood but strong smelling fish is another one that's too much for me. especially in an unventilated space with no windows and no way to dissipate the stink.

i'm not a fan of strong smells in general.

Canned cream of broccoli soup tastes fine, or even good to me, but oh god the smell. Home made probably smells bad, too, but I've never made it so I wouldn't know.

Kimchi is hit-and-miss for me flavor-wise, but smell-wise, ugh no.

There is no food there I can get past the smell.
I am with you on cabbage. I can't stand a lot of my national cuisine because it includes cooked cabbage. I hate everything about it
