So, i got the full MRI results. Not only a herniated disc in neck, but also a tear in that disc and then three other herniated discs. Obviously I'm scheduled with a new doctor and getting a pain doctor referral.

But is there anything I should do in the meantime? I'm especially nervous about the neck one, never dealt with a neck injury before. Should I get a brace? Is there anything I should be doing? I'm icing it a good amount and also using heat, switching it up. And maxing out on ibuprofen.

You should ask your doctor this. Neck issues are notoriously complex and what is correct for one kind of injury in one person could be very bad in another. The soft tissue treatment and anti-inflammatories you're doing now is fine, but you shouldn't be doing anything like a brace or exercises without the doctor or other professional evaluating it first.

Echoing the other anon — neck issues are tricky. What you’re doing sounds good. Also, if you can without pain, gentle stretching of your shoulders can help. Notice I didn’t say neck! Don’t stretch that until a doctor or PT shows you how.

I hope you get seen soon. Good luck.

I'm looking for scores with a creepy/horror Southern/swamp/ghost vibes to listen to while reading!

[personal profile] kaijinscendre 2025-06-12 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
Reading the Blackwater series by Michael McDowell and want some scores to pair them to. I find that pairing books with a certain score helps me remember them better. Anyone have any recommendations?

What's the last fandom thing you argued about? Or the last huge fandom argument you've seen? Fandom stuff only, the sillier and pettier the better.

I think the last argument I was part of was the debate over the nature of Melkor/Sauron and whether it is an abusive relationship that woobifies Sauron to a certain extent. Just goes against my view of Sauron and of their relationship and I don't think fits with canon. I feel very strongly about this.

Hmmm, either someone insisting that "You can't say someone in a musical is a bad singer or even that they are the weakest singer in the cast." Or someone trying to convince me that my MHA age difference ship is bad while theirs is good. That one was just funny.

Nothing juicy…

I argued with someone about whether calling something a “mystery box” TV show was a complaint about quality/execution or a neutral description of genre. (Now I’m not even sure I was right.)

I really wanted to start an argument with the person who said Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland was a great adaptation because it accurately identified the message of the original story. But they never came back to reply.

That Porsche isn't a selfish asshole for not abandoning the mafia (which would get him killed) to go comfort his brother who was going through the break up of a relationship that Porsche didn't even know was happening.

I saw jokes about Discourse on shipping Dr. Doofenschmirtz and Perry the Platypus from Phineas and Ferb.

Not sure anyone is really arguing over if and why it’s problematic, but I found the concept funny.

I argued with someone who said the author of a dystopia story had "forgotten" that marginalized groups would also have shitty lives in their dystopia and so it was a grave oversight to include them as characters, because if the author had "remembered" their setting, they wouldn't have included marginalized people in it to suffer. (These groups are only ones that are marginalized IRL; in the fictional dystopia humanity has moved past bigotry. It just, y'know, also a dystopia.)

What shows/series/fandoms have you struggled to let go of?

[personal profile] iff_and_xor 2025-06-12 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
Is there anything you’re still following or doing fandom stuff for, despite not being really excited or interested anymore?

I watched both Supernatural and The Walking Dead for far longer than I should have. :(

I still keep a bit up to date with Genshin Impact, despite swearing off gacha games and not really playing it since 2023 and being frustrated with the direction the writing has taken, especially with my fave.

I kept watching both Death in Paradise and Father Brown for at least a whole series after telling myself I really should stop.

It’s hard with things that I watch with my roommates. It’s so easy to decide we should keep going with a show, even if neither of us are actually invested anymore, just because it takes less effort than finding something new we both agree to watch.

Doctor Who, but it’s on and off because I’ll be excited for about a season and then something will happen that will disappoint me.

Its taken me the longest time to shake off Harry Potter. I think I've almost completely shoved it aside participation wise just recently.

I continued to watch House long after the enjoyment ended and it made me hate the show. I stuck with The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, and Doctor Who for too long, too. DW has eras though so I’ve become a pro at tuning in and out based on what I like about the show.

Foe a long time, I tried to keep up with L&O: SVU but by some point, I just couldn't handle it anymore.

I was ready to stop watching GoT by season 4 but convinced myself to see it through to the end and it was not worth it lol
At least I didn't bother with House of the Dragon.

I started watching Grey's Anatomy when I caught reruns on Lifetime or something, until I caught up to the original episodes (it was maybe 3 seasons in) and then I watched up to the first couple of episodes of season 13, but those annoyed me enough that I stopped watching. But somehow, my interest got reignited and I was watching again by that season finale. Then I quit a couple of episodes into season 18, just exasperated with the characters and the storylines, and I haven't watched it since and hopefully, I won't go back (it just concluded its 21st season and has been renewed for season 22).

I don't know why

(Anonymous) 2025-06-12 10:43 pm (UTC)(link)
But I keep finding myself drawn back to The Witcher fic. Not the fandom as a whole, but just the fic. Maybe it's because nothing new has really caught my eye since then, but I'll go months not thinking about it but then slowly be drawn back into trawling ao3 for new(or new to me) fic. I need to just let it go. The show is trash that I stopped watching after season 2, I don't know why I can't drop the fic.
