I would think the controversial stuff would be the stuff that would be questionable in real life: non-consent, age stuff, that sort of thing. Why would something that two consenting adults could do in real life be controversial?

I don't presume to know how the internet and fandom works. It's kind like how sometimes the most milquetoast ships will become super controversial for reasons I don't understand.

Sounding is controversial just because a lot of people haven't heard about it and when they do the reaction seems to be recoil and horror. I thought it was pretty standard, but I think I'm pretty biased due to fic from kinkmemes.
