secret OP

Also, the lack of fic focused on him (or even wiht him as part of the main ship) is CRIMINAL. There are more T'Challa/Tony Stark and T'Challa/Everett Ross fics than T'Challa/M'Baku.

Yeah, I’m more a fan of the books than the show, by a huge margin. I'm still watching it, though not in hopes that it will change or get closer to the books. I just consider it fanfiction where I don't agree with all of the author's choices.

(Anonymous) 2025-06-26 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
What are you wittering on about?

(Anonymous) 2025-06-26 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
same tbh. I also like the minis but a) am not sure I want to lay down the kind of cash needed to build a proper army and b) like figures across all the lines which means what I would find fun to paint wouldn't necessarily work as an army or even a warband.

First, great movie! I always think of it as a good alternate take on the noir femme fatale, one where both she and the protagonist get a happy ending. And it has some really wonderful shots: the drying money, the blood in the paint…

Second, about your discomfort…there was just a discussion on Reddit about “freaky” movies, with examples like 50 Shades of Gray, Secretary, and Crash. I found myself slightly offended that Bound was one of the top answers. Really felt like people who don’t distinguish between kinky sex and queer sex.

Edit: Which is just to say, I get it, the perception you might worry about. But as nonny said above, I hope you can just feel good about appreciating this one.

Same. Though I can understand why OP gets frustrated by comments like that. Reddit is very fond of passing around the same ancient joke or pop culture reference over and over again and upvoting one another for low-effort remarks.

Jennifer Tilly as Violet was my whole sexuality for about a year in my youth lol.

Yeah, I’ve actually been in places where I didn’t want to admit the opposite: I never found it funny. (Not just to avoid “yucking someone’s yum”, but to avoid having people try to explain to me that I just don’t understand how yummy it really is.)

context of the post and the sub. AskReddit? one-line answers are boring and never get upvoted. lots of niche subs for specialty subjects, otoh, a one-line answer is preferred and you get downvoted for pontificating.

then there's the generational subs where you've got a 50/50 chance so have fun replying "Weezer" to every music question.

I don't play videogames at all. But I do like the lore a lot. Warhammer a little better than Warhammer 40k. But both are really fun.

There has been a lot of push back lately. Seems the popular thing is to hate on Seinfeld (the show) these days. I agree the man is an ass, but I still find the show funny.

I'm pretty sure most people assume random passing downvotes are bots anyway. Like if there's a huge ratio of downvotes, no, but a random stray one? Bot

I am incredibly disappointed but can't say I'm surprised. T'Challa/M'Baku is definitely a ship I would have been into if I was in that fandom.

Favorite/Least Favorite Adaptions

[personal profile] philstar22 2025-06-26 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Semi-inspired by secret 1. What are your favorite and least favorite adaptions, and why? Also, what adaptions made changes that actually worked? What changes really didn't work?

Same

(Anonymous) 2025-06-26 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
But mostly because it doesn't actually add to the discussion, which is what up/down voting is supposed to be for.

If you can't be assed to expand beyond one word answers just don't answer at all. It adds nothing.

LotR

(Anonymous) 2025-06-26 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
It is blasphemous to say, but I actually found the books pretty boring to read but loved the movies. I felt they stayed true to the story but just took out all the boring bits.

thank you to all the people who have chattered about this show on FS. There has been so many comments of praise that I finally went to watch it today and it is so much fun! I absolutely love the style and vibe of the entire thing and am excited to have a new show to watch.

I totally get this, honestly. Tolkien's writing isn't for everyone, and I get why a lot of people find him boring.

Also, for some reason, Middle Earth is one of those things where I love even loose adaptions. I just love it regardless. So while I love the books, I also love the movies. And the tv show. It all makes me happy.

(Anonymous) 2025-06-26 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah. I am, unfortunately, incredibly easily influenced on things like internal narrator voice so I've avoided watching it because I love the books as my brain interprets them. I've read the series numerous times over and don't want them to change (or ruined).

I do hope the series does well and people enjoy it!

I agree, but I am not a fan of reading fantasy.

Least Favorite

(Anonymous) 2025-06-26 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
The champion of Worst Adaptation will forever go to Ella Enchanted for me. What a travesty of a film. I suppose it could have been fun if they just said it was a made up story and not based on the book, but as a book adaptation? Oh hell no.

That book was my favorite for a long time when I was younger.

It's not my favorite, but I did enjoy the latest A Wrinkle in Time movie. It was like watching an AU version of the book. I'd like an adaptation that was more accurate, but I enjoyed the movie and understood the changes they made.

(Anonymous) 2025-06-26 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Man, all the comments on how good the lore is for this verse makes me want to check out the books. It also makes me curious about what the fic for the fandom is like.

But what if it's funny?

Re: Favorite/Least Favorite Adaptions

Favorites: LOTR, Rings of Power. Jurassic Park. Both animated and live action How to Train Your Dragon. Legend of the Seeker (better than the books by far). David Suchet's Poirot.

The Dune tv adaption was really, really good. I enjoy the recent movie adaption as well, but the tv version is best.

Least favorite: Wizard of Oz. Making it a dream ruins things. And the books were such a big part of my childhood, and I'm sad there is no faithful adaption.

The new Poirot movies.

The Last Airbender movie. Unspeakably bad.

The DCU, especially that version of Superman. Just total misunderstanding of the character.

Yes, I enjoyed the Wheel of Time movie. The tv adaption was terrible, though.
