What time do you eat dinner?

(Anonymous) 2025-07-11 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
On average.

My friend and I are very opposite and give each other shit about it, one of us eats around 5pm and the other around 9pm. One of those fun pointless differences to tease about.

Also, do you use the word supper or dinner or both? I've been told "supper" is a very regional thing so I've switched to using dinner but honestly they are synonyms to me.

On weekdays, around 5:30-6pm. On weekends, we usually just have a big lunch around 2-3. I use dinner more but I use both.

Usually between 6 and 6:30.

I try to eat around 5 or 6, though sometimes life adds or subtracts an hour or two.

I just say dinner. Supper can be regional but unless I'm in very specific areas where those two are different things, I just assume it's the same thing.

Usually around 11pm. No real reason for it, I'm just a night owl.

Oh, forgot: it's also 'dinner' for me, never heard anyone local say 'supper.'

Supper was generally what we ate at home as the last meal of the day - informal and all at the kitchen table with family. Dinner was a more formal affair - like Christmas Dinner. But I now use them interchangeably.

I eat when I get home from work, which is around 5-6pm.

I call it dinner and I eat around 6pm. I eat every other hour starting at 6am but then after dinner I only eat a slice of bread at bedtime to keep from getting sick from bedtime meds.

So, old timer here. Dinner is the big meal of the day. For a lot of farm and ranch families, that means dinner is the middle of the day meal, because there’s still a lot of day left and work to do. They call the evening meal supper because it’s smaller than the noon meal.
I don’t eat supper. I have a good breakfast, and late lunch, and usually have a handful of nuts or something in the evening. I’m just not hungry then, so I don’t eat. When I did, supper was at 6 pm.

Might seem stupid, but "When I'm hungry" works for me.

roughly 5pm, but no later than 6. I have medication that I take at 10p that requires at least 2 hrs before and 1 hr after of no food, so I can't go out late. I can't eat past 8 so I don't even bother trying to plan for anything later than 6.

it's mostly because when my partner worked outside the house, I would have dinner ready when she came home by 5:30. since the pandemic lockdown she's been in the house so 5ish is more natural, but I'm trying to loosen up and not be so anal about knocking off work so I can cook in time to have dinner ready on the dot of 5. it's hard. but I still feel gross if I've let things go and dinner isn't ready till 6.

We call it dinner, though both my wife and I are from the US south, so it wouldn't phase us to say that we eat dinner in winter and an early supper in summer, since those words correlate with a time of day for us. (In order: breakfast - brunch - lunch - tea - dinner - supper. We typically only eat two or three of them on any given day, mix and matched.)

In winter, it's around 5:30-6:00. Summer is around 7:30-8:00.

We have dinner at 3:00 PM or 4:00 PM.

Between 7pm and 9pm (usually 7 but sometimes lose track of time for various reasons until tummy growls). I call it supper.

I would really prefer around 6-7, it's more comfortable for me. But I get from work around 8, so I have to grab something after. Hate it
