Are there fandoms or other hobbies you feel you missed out on?

I tend to find most shows late, so a lot of TV fandoms. I managed to get into one while it was still fairly active, but it did die just as I was really finding my fic writing groove. So that sucked. My own fault, I knew I'd arrived very close to closing time.

Same here. I think I've read 95% of the fic, too.

Kind of Harry Potter? I know the JKR is terrible but the fanfic output is amazing.

Avatar the Last Airbender. I wish I had watched it as a kid. Tried watching it as an adult and it was just too silly.

For hobbies...maybe sewing? I don't think it is "over" but I have too many hobbies already.

Sewing would mesh so perfectly with your other hobbies though!

I know! It'd be great to be able to sew a back for a pillow or blanket I crochet.

I'm glad I got into sewing during the Project Runway heyday. Where I live, it would be hard to start now. With the closure of Joanns, there's nowhere to buy fabric and notions in person. The Simplicity pattern group is being liquidated. Prices for materials and patterns on Etsy are skyrocketing. It feels like it's over.

I'm afraid Michaels is headed down the same private equity spiral as Joanns.

Yeah, that is the main reason I was thinking of. All I have is a Hobby Lobby locally.

I came to the Dragon Age games pretty late and I think the fandoms, specifically Inquisition, would have been fun to be part of when the games were new.

From my memories and understanding Inquisition had a pretty toxic fandom in the beginning.

Sad but unsurprising. Ime video game fandoms seem to be generally pretty toxic.

Not really. I do my own thing in my fandoms and other than looking at art and reading fanfics, I generally stay away from the fandom circles.

Me too. I'm actually OK with "missing out" because it means 1) I don't witness drama 2) the fandom is mature (or dead) and there are already some fanworks around to peruse.

AYRT

Exactly! It’s just so mellow! Much easier for me.

All my fandom friends were in the Final Fantasy VII (original, not remake) fandom when it was new and shiny, and I felt like the only person on the internet without a PS2. I feel like I would have been a very different person if I'd been able to participate in the Tifa vs. Aerith -- sorry, Aeris -- discourse back then. Almost all my friends were Team Tifa because she could punch things so she was strong and Aeris was weak and boring because she was a healer who wore pink and died. Knowing what I know now (still through osmosis) oh wow some of those online friendships may have soured a lot if I'd been a participant in the fandom.

A lot of book fandoms - Twilight, Harry Potter, Hunger Games, Divergent - came out right as my parents heavily restricted what kinds of books I could read. Never quite got into them as a result.

I also could never quite figure out how Homestuck worked, and it seems like it would have been up my alley.
