I own my house in an area where housing is insanely expensive. I inherited it, but it was falling apart even when my parents bought it, and my drug addict schizophrenic dad and alcoholic mom didn't improve things.

I make just over half the median income for the city where I live, and qualify as very, but not extremely, low income. Most of my neighbors make way more than the median.

So house (or land, it might be worth more sans house) rich, cash poor. Thrifted clothes, patch everything with duct tape, put buckets under the leaks...

Before last year I'd have said enough money = enough to fix the house and keep it livable, enough to afford to retire at 65 and pay for good medical and home care, and enough to keep my cat and maybe a couple more pets healthy and happy, plus some extra for hobbies and a vacation a year that's a) not a staycation and b) last longer than three days. Maybe even three weeks!

Now it's that plus enough to emigrate/afford citizenship or permanent residency somewhere outside the US where I know anybody at all, so Ireland, the UK, or Denmark, maybe France or Canada or Aotearoa if I really stretch the definition of "know anybody."

If I was a billionaire I'd give money away until I was just a millionaire, but I might also try buying a couple politicians.
