I can barely afford a house, and only because I bought an older home that needs updates, several years before the real estate market went nuts around COVID. Not in danger of being homeless or hungry, but one big disaster away from draining my savings.

Ten million dollars. I'd feel comfortable quitting my job and knowing that I had plenty of money to live in comfort, to pay for my healthcare and chronic conditions, to bail out family members and set the younger ones on a good path re: paying for their education plus emergency funds, to travel and donate to good causes, to spoil my dog for his lifetime.

I would quit my job, invest most of it, start trust funds for my family and write a will with bequests for family, friends and charities I support. I'd also try and use my clout politically because I'm tired of living in a reddish state with backwards laws that hurt people and Republican politicians who embezzle and kiss Trump ass. But I don't want to be directly involved, or play any political role. I want to relax, and spend the rest of my life doing as little as possible.

Oh yeah, would also fix up my house completely and contemplate buying a huge (hundred acres or more) chunk of land to build a family compound that as self-sustaining as possible, with an enormous garden, fruit orchards, small dairy, chickens, etc. and people to run it for me. There'd be small houses tucked here and there for family and friends if they needed refuge.

New car. Nothing fancy, a Toyota Corolla would be great. I wouldn't even bother with leather seats or whatnot, I just want a reliable car that won't break down and leave me stranded somewhere.
