(Anonymous) 2025-07-12 04:33 pm (UTC)(link)I've never heard of a place that offers 401k with retail jobs, but just about every business headquarters or branch in my town offers 401k as a basic benefit, for everyone working there. I started as a staff assistant making $12.50/hr and had a 401k.
The big issue for 401k is that it's no guarantee for retirement like a pension was. Even less if the company doesn't match, or only partially matches, or matches too low. And even in cases where they do 100% match up to a good amount, you still need to invest to get anywhere near being able to retire, and investments are literally gambling.
