Don't worry. Someone will still complain.

I am all in with you OP!

Also, my slight dyslexia makes King Cnut a wildly offensive name lol Took me several reads to realize what my brain was doing. I was just like "maybe there's a history with the origin of the word I'm unaware of there...?"

LOL...

There are so many amazing or badass or just plain interesting women in history and I am continually angry that there aren't a million movies about them and instead we get ten thousand batmans and the same damn war stories over and over. So yes, I am with you.

+1000

I wouldn't mind the buckets of superheroes and general Dude stories if they threw us a bone every now and again as far as historical women go. Alas they do not, so I'm angry about it right along with you.

Right? So much wasted potential.

I NEED a goddamned movie about Julie d'Aubigny, the bisexual fencer/opera singer/nun.

I saw a musical about her a couple of years ago - it was fantastic!

She sounds interesting!

I mean, historical and fantasy are two separate genres, so while I agree with you about so many samey war movies, batman would be a separate thing. That being said, I really wish we'd get more female-centric fantasy and science fiction with awesome, complex female characters. More than one even.

God, YES. A million times YES. A miniseries or an ongoing one, heck, I'd settle for a well-done movie too. Something, *anything* about women in that age!!

Vikings are criminals and killers. Like pirates they are removed from the present day but I despise their war based culture, laws and social structure.

That is... an incredibly old-fashioned take, is my understanding? Like, they were farmers. Norse settlers came to Britain and became part of the furniture. Obviously invasion and violence was part of it but their culture was no more "war based" than many others, is what I've heard - they're remembered as violent raiders in Anglophone media primarily because that's what they were to the British for a long time, but that isn't really the same thing.

I would love to see this too.

Though the whole thing with the Norman Invasion always makes me smile. Because Harold Godwinson has just kicked Harold Hadrada's ass being like, "Hell yeah! No more threats to the Anglo-Saxons anymore!" only to receive word of William of Normandy landing on his shores. I imagine Harold Godwinson was just like, "Freakin' A!"
