Or rants.

TW for elderly...sadness? Idk.

I got my hair cut two days ago and there was an elderly woman who has made me depressed. She was waiting for her appointment. She fell months ago and had been bedridden due to a broken back and neck bones. So her long her had become tangled and matted. She supposedly has at least some cousins.

She apparently lost her daughter to cancer and she said her front room of her house was her daughter's dream bedroom still. She had possibly lost 6 other kids BUT she also kept calling her dog her grandkid. So I hope those were dogs. She said she only wants to outlive her last dog. Lots of other tiny things that are hard for her.

The whole conversation made me extremely depressed. I gave the hair dresser the extra cash I had to help pay for the hair dematting (they said they would charge her based on time) but i literally can't stop thinking about it. I've been crying every night. Like...I can't just ask the hair dresser for her name. I just feel depressed and helpless.

Oh anon, my heart goes out to both you and that lady. I hope both of you are able to find some peace soon, and thank you for helping her out with the hair dematting.

This would make me super sad too. No advice, but maybe a consolation that the sadness is a mark that you are a caring and empathic person and that the world could do with more people like that.

Oh nonny. That's so sweet of you to help her out. Sometimes the universe just picks a fight with someone and it's so heartbreaking seeing the misfortune pile up, especially when they're older and less able.

My nan lost both her husband and her son (my dad) within six months of eachother. I can't imagine her pain. Sometimes the universe just picks a fight with one person and it's so heartbreaking just seeing the misfortune and grief pile up, especially when they're older, isolated or less able.

Thank you for putting a little happiness into her day. You've got a real good heart. Sending hugs.

That is sad, nonny. But I bet your gesture brightened her day, and I bet the people who work at that salon were touched, too. You did a good thing, and that may have a ripple effect that you didn't anticipate.
