I know for me, fandom works best if there are plot holes to work around. And I don’t have the patience to get through most books with plot holes. Ergo, no book fandom.

This is usually me as well. There are loads of movies I love but the fandom drive just isn't really there for me, I only have two exceptions and that's the PJ Tolkien movies for whatever reason those scratch my itch for shipping, but otherwise it's TV only and sometimes games.

I'm not a big sci-fi person but I absolutely loved The Expanse books and TV show. Something about it hit all the right buttons for me.

I don't think it was revolutionary, but I had a really good time watching it. It was just honest fun with some catchy songs and fun characters.

My thing is there has to be more to work with for me to fandom. So with movies or books, it has to be a whole series of them, not just a single book.

There are books I'm a big fan of, but no books I'm following the fandom for.

For me it's the medium, mostly. If I were in fandom I'd write fic, and writing fic for a book feels somehow awkward to me, like making a fan comic for a comic or fan music for a musician. The original that I'm a fan of is already has those things covered.
