That secret was about a character in a game I was in called [livejournal.com profile] squenix_uni that was overtaken recently and I had played in it until it from the beginning before I moved to GJ. The character journal was [livejournal.com profile] frozen_deity and was the worst Yazuu I had ever seen.

lololololol IAWTC!!!!
she didn't even spell his name right

Re: #5

Yeah I was pretty bad. I still spell it Yazuu though. At least I know now I was right to believe it was me.

That's why I never RP any real characters. Thanks for proving all my deepest darkest fears right. At least I don't have to be paranoid anymore about how much I suck.

lol ur welcome

Re: #5

Still, I wish you'd said you thought I was doing something poorly. I mean, I picked him up before the movie was even released, I had barely anything to go on so I had to fill in a lot myself. During like...my weepy, abused 'please use me' uke phase. Everyone improves, you certainly SHOULDN'T have let one bad RPer ruin a character for you.

I mean, c'mon, how much power do you want to give people over how you feel about your fandom?

Re: #5

I mean, I picked him up before the movie was even released, I had barely anything to go on

so why did you do it?

lol im not the poster dont ask me

Re: #5

[identity profile] kuni-izumi.livejournal.com 2007-04-16 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Because it gave me more freedom with the character. I'd always worried about being accused of not being Canon or whatever, but as you can see it backfired anyways.

I don't usually plan cannon characters because people instantly assume any OC is a sue or stu, which isn't always true, but my version of Yazuu was taken poorly anyways.

What's just sad is that no one said a thing and this was YEARS ago. I wish if someone had a problem with me they would have said so, I would have tried to be more accommodating, but in the end I write for myself and not really for anyone else so if you don't like my riding -shrug- don't read it, right?

Actually, even if the characterization was terribly off (I watched the movie and went Oh god my Yazuu is nothing like canon), I feel that was the time period I did some of my best writing, inspired by other great RPers. I regret someone was upset SO MUCH I ruined a character for them, no one who likes a fandom wants to ruin it for anyone else, but I don't regret the experience or the friends I made.

if your 'Yazuu's any indication, your OCs WOULD be sues lol

Oh I remember that Yazuu. TOTALLY GROSS. HE WOULDN'T STOP CHASING MY SEPHIROTH :| LOL, then he went and fell in mad sex with the Squall. Poor guy x_o

[identity profile] kuni-izumi.livejournal.com 2007-04-16 09:56 pm (UTC)(link)
If you had a problem with it, you could have asked me not to. Seems to me you ate up the attention a lot though.

Oh, because your spelling is TOTALLY the right one, isn't it (:

Re: #5

[identity profile] kuni-izumi.livejournal.com 2007-04-16 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Nope. I spelled it Yazoo in the secret. I just prefer Yazuu because it looks less like Yahoo, which sort of bugs me. Just an aesthetic issue.

Re: #5

(Anonymous) 2007-04-16 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, I can see your reasoning has an amazing backing as well. Good job, try to be a little less original sometimes!

Not the OP, but your attitude really stinks.

Re: #5

[identity profile] kuni-izumi.livejournal.com 2007-04-17 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
Well I'd seen it spelled Yazuu originally as well and then it changed to Yazoo once I was already used to it that way.

My attitude stinks? Because I have a difference in how I spell it? I don't try to make people spell it either way, just as I don't care if you spell it Aeris or Aerith. It's just a preference like preferring one color to another. Who cares?

My RP was lousy then, I admit it, how am a bad person for trying my best then, and trying to be civil now?

Re: #5

(Anonymous) 2007-04-17 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
No, because reading the comments you're giving other people, you're making it sound like you should be pitied for playing an unknown character who you could totally ruin for your own fun and make others suffer watching it. The more I read it, the more I start to agree with the original secret. It looks like you take things more personally than you realize.

Re: #5

[identity profile] kuni-izumi.livejournal.com 2007-04-17 12:40 am (UTC)(link)
No I'm saying I shouldn't be criticized when I was ignorant as anyone else. Like I had the script to make him perfect? Yeah my characterization sucked. I don't see why it should RUIN Advent Children for someone.

And I do take things incredibly personally, my writing is something of an extension of myself and they said *I* ruined it for them. Two years ago? How can you say that isn't personally linked to ME? Whatever, knowing they meant me gives me closure at least on the subject and I can reflect and try not to fuck up again, probably by sticking to just OC games because no one agrees on what' 'right' in fandom anyways. No one is ever going to agree with everyone. I'm just saying I didn't commit some sort of crime here.

I don’t know which courageous anonymous commenter to respond to, but that’s all right. I’m sure this will be seen and discussed. “Lauri defended heeer LULZ. D:D:D:3:3” Yeah, I am. Not because she’s incapable of it herself (clearly, she’s already spent too much time replying to comments that deserve to be ignored altogether), but because I’m her friend, and this stupidity has gone on just a little too long.

How does it feel to gang up on someone? The fastest way to make yourself taller is to step on someone else, right? I’m amazed that this is such a huge issue… “OMG SHE RUINED THE MOVIE SHE RUINED MY LIIIIFE!!!” Really? Those poor animators… spending years of their lives hunched over desks and damaging their eyes in front of computer screens… Oh well, they tried. Unfortunately they were no match for a single person’s interpretation of a character. Despite how ridiculous that is, somehow I doubt that anyone would particularly like to have that said regarding them… but no, no. “Look at her whine and cry!!” It’s good to know that these commenters have absolutely no concern for someone else’s feelings. That’s right, they must be far too perfect and elite for such petty things like that to bother them. But someone at one point or another believed she played her character poorly!? THAT MUST NOT GO UNACKNOWLEDGED!!! I knooow, let’s harbor these VERYIMPORTANT insults in seeeeeecriiiiiiiit and then HIT HER WITH THEM YEARS LATER WHEN SHE LEAST EXPECTS IT LOLOLOLOL THAT’LL LEARN ‘ER!!

I’d like to know the exact criteria required in order to be proclaimed a “good role-player”, and, what qualifies another to make that judgment. Wow, because you know, with those skills on your resume, you’d be set for life.

DAER MR SRS BIZ HIRRING PERSONMAN

I AM A GREAT RPER AND SOSO POPULAR WITH THE MASSES ONLINE. I ALSO HAVE THE INNATE/MYSTERIOUS/UNQUESTIONABLE POWWAAH TO IMMEDIATELY TELL IF SOMEONE IS PLAYING THEIRR CHARACTORZ WRONG!!112

Re: #5

[identity profile] rainfalldreams.livejournal.com 2007-04-17 03:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Isn’t a good rp simply one in which the people directly interacting with one another are happy? Shouldn’t that be all there is to it? It’s not a career, it’s not charity or an obligation, it’s just what it is… a game. If you don’t like what someone is doing for whatever reason, then don’t play with that person. Is that really a difficult concept to grasp? What’s hard for me to believe is that there is an absolute wrong way to play a character. Part of the fun is to come up with your own interpretation, “how would this character behave in this situation, in this period of time?”… No, not everyone will have the same analysis as you (seriously, how could they?), maybe they’ll put more thought into it than you might’ve, or not quite enough, but that’s how they’ve chosen to explore that (made up) personality (who no one, including the creators, can be considered an expert on… partly because it’s just not important). Instead of re-reading the actual book, watching the movie/show or playing the videogame in which the character appears, the reason I rp is to see how a person will make that character respond in their own individual way. There should be no need to defend those choices.

As far as that specific role-playing community is concerned, there were several others who played using their unique perspectives… were they wrong, were they right… does it matter? Should and will they all be pinpointed for no apparent reason? Of course not. At least, they shouldn’t. So, the unwarranted, negative opinions of a few have been aired here. Okay… now what? What was the expected result? Has the world been diverted off some disastrous course? That was close! Maybe I’m the only one and maybe not, but I couldn’t sleep after reading those comments. Val has been such a good friend to me and I can’t ignore an attack on her over nothing. If stepping in to say my piece horribly offends the ones who couldn’t show the slightest amount of tact, then that’s fine with me. They wouldn’t be people I’d want to spend any more time on than I already have. That’s the thing with Val. There’s a distinct lack of drama in my experience with her. We play the way we like, when we like. It’s never been more complicated than that and it never will be. Anonymous people can think whatever they’d like, but they’ll have to deal with the fact that one person’s opinion won’t be altered.

Re: #5

(Anonymous) 2007-04-17 05:40 pm (UTC)(link)
you're both missing the point that no one cares any more and no one cares what you think

whatever tl;dr

Re: #5

(Anonymous) 2007-04-18 07:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Obviously you've missed the point. You can have your own interpretations and whatever it is you want to do, no one cares. We're discussing canon and influence and I might just be elitist about things like this, but to put down official interpretations in favor of claiming "oh! mine is the better one!" is ridiculous to players who do try and keep as strongly to canon as possible, or as much as they can in whatever situation they're thrown into.

tl;dr down? Keep it out of our faces kthx.

Re: #5

[identity profile] rainfalldreams.livejournal.com 2007-04-18 08:50 pm (UTC)(link)
No one cares and yet you feel the need to comment.

At what point did she specifically claim her interpretation was better, and, even if that was the case, how does that justify singling her out and upsetting her? This hasn't been a "discussion".

The point is that role-playing isn't and will never be important enough to directly hurt someone.

Re: #5

(Anonymous) 2007-04-18 08:59 pm (UTC)(link)
No one's insulting her, only saying she was once a horrible RPer and made some bad decisions, a fact which she admitted to, which people agreed to, which she stated again, which people agreed to again, which she stated again, which people agreed to again while being confused as to why she kept saying it over and over when everyone knew that in the first place, (and both of you seem to be stating repeatedly for some reason, okay, everyone gets it, that was the original point in the first place).

If it's not important, why is she getting hurt over it?

Re: #5

[identity profile] rainfalldreams.livejournal.com 2007-04-18 09:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Would you enjoy being told you're horrible at something, particularly by someone/people who aren't necessarily better than you, and in this manner (in a community through anonymous comments)? Being hurt by something fairly trivial isn't the same as hurting someone else over it. When it looked as though it was being taken personally (understandably so considering the way it was handled), there was no reason to continue.

I've said all that I needed to for the sake of a friend and my own peace of mind.

Re: #5

(Anonymous) 2007-04-19 10:54 pm (UTC)(link)
I doubt that anyone who wasn't "better than her" would have the balls to go ahead and say that she was worse than them because they'd have no right to do so and they'd know it.

Both of you are just repeating what we know and have heard already, so there's really no point in continuing when that's settled. Move along, nothing more to say, except that perhaps the lesser you say, the lesser you'll find yourself out of things to say.
