I feel like this kind of implies that the writing in the 70s was overall worse than it is now (with the exception of the occasional bad idea like the one OP wishes had been rejected), and imo... that's honestly doing the older series a bit of an injustice. :'D

THAT SAID, I would LOVE to know which particular Plot Twist™️ this is about, I'm so curious now.
