I enjoyed the True Grit remake more than the original. The Thing is definitely better (both are versions of the book).

I think the old film has its charms but the newer one is truer to the source material (if more sweary than was allowed when the book was written).

I'm tempted to say Hammer's (Horror of) Dracula is better (certainly better-paced) than the Universal film but the two are different enough that the Hammer film might be legitimately called a re-imagining.

politics thread has been gone for a while

does anyone miss it? I don't

I haven't played this game in a while, but I remember it being, like, fine? Did it get bad when I wasn't looking, or did it always have whatever it is you dislike.

Most of the ones I can think of aren't really remakes, the are second/third adaptions.

But I'd say Battlestar Galactica the remake is better. The Mummy, Brenden Fraser version.

The live action Disney Cinderella, the only one of the live actions that improves on the original.

Stargate: SG1 vastly improves on the movie. The TBH I still like the movie.

I do. But then again, politics is basically my life these days, and it was nice to have a place to vent.

Thomas Crown Affair

I enjoyed the Thomas Crown Affair remake a lot more than the original.

I don’t think I’d argue it’s necessarily a better film, but I think it’s a very well executed reimagining for another era.

I’m even kind of excited about the idea of a new remake, which is supposedly in the works. If nothing else, it’ll be interesting to see what they think needs changing for the modern moment.

(They say it stars Michael B. Jordan and my money is on adding some “Robin Hood” type aspect to the main character’s crimes.)

I mean yes, she's hot. But I like this version better because I think it is funnier.

Why? The audiences aren’t the same. And just because an idea was rejected, it doesn’t mean it can’t be reworked into something that could succeed.

Lazy dinners

It kinda feels like every movie that was released in the 90s fits this. The Mummy, True Lies, Cape Fear, and Heat spring to mind immediately. But outside of the 90s there is also Little Shop of Horrors, Oceans 11, Scarface, and True Grit.
