Remakes that are better than the originals...

I enjoyed the True Grit remake more than the original. The Thing is definitely better (both are versions of the book).

Most of the ones I can think of aren't really remakes, the are second/third adaptions.

But I'd say Battlestar Galactica the remake is better. The Mummy, Brenden Fraser version.

The live action Disney Cinderella, the only one of the live actions that improves on the original.

Stargate: SG1 vastly improves on the movie. The TBH I still like the movie.

Thomas Crown Affair

[personal profile] iff_and_xor 2025-07-25 12:15 am (UTC)(link)

I enjoyed the Thomas Crown Affair remake a lot more than the original.

I don’t think I’d argue it’s necessarily a better film, but I think it’s a very well executed reimagining for another era.

I’m even kind of excited about the idea of a new remake, which is supposedly in the works. If nothing else, it’ll be interesting to see what they think needs changing for the modern moment.

(They say it stars Michael B. Jordan and my money is on adding some “Robin Hood” type aspect to the main character’s crimes.)

It kinda feels like every movie that was released in the 90s fits this. The Mummy, True Lies, Cape Fear, and Heat spring to mind immediately. But outside of the 90s there is also Little Shop of Horrors, Oceans 11, Scarface, and True Grit.

The IPCRESS File

[personal profile] iff_and_xor 2025-07-25 12:37 am (UTC)(link)

I thought about another, possibly more controversial one.

I genuinely think that the TV version of The IPCRESS File (2022) is better than the film version (1965). And I say that as a big fan of Michael Caine.

I remembered the film as so cool, but on rewatching, the plot is quite thin and the characters never get much depth either. The TV version takes bits from the book and the film and adds some new things that make it all feel better developed.

Oceans 11

(Anonymous) 2025-07-25 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
Top tier remake imo.

The Fly (1986) is a grosser, but better movie than the 1958 one.

The Fugitive (1993) movie is better than the original TV show, not because the show was bad, just, the movie is awesome. They also did a TV show remake in 2000 and that was not as good as the original.

The Flash (2014) show is better than the 1990 TV show.

Assault on Precinct 13

(Anonymous) 2025-07-25 02:11 am (UTC)(link)
The original was completely full of the worst of the 70s movie styles. The remake is so much better. Ethan Hawke and Lawrence Fishburne are always a plus.

the Peter Jackson King Kong, and not just because of the special effects. (the original had EXCELLENT special effects by 30's standards)
the women Ghostbusters and I don't care how many dudebros get all pissy at me.
The Mel Brooks To Be or Not To Be
The Judy Garland Star is Born
the Humphrey Bogart Maltese Falcon is actually a remake. there were two others before then and neither one is all that great, even though Bette Davis is in one of them. (she's good but the rest of the movie is just plain embarrassing)

I do. But then again, politics is basically my life these days, and it was nice to have a place to vent.

Sliced turkey is easy. Canned soup. Canned veggies. tuna. Ramin. frozen meals.

Peanut butter sandwiches. I love them and I’m lazy so I eat them A LOT. I’ll eat them plain or add jelly or bananas.

My other go to is instant ramen, the little 50¢ packs. I toss out the flavor packet and instead just eat the noodles. If I’m not feeling lazy, I make the noodles in my wok, drain off the water and rinse the noodles, then splash in some sesame oil, soy sauce, crushed cashews, chopped spinach and whatever veggies I have on hand, and do it all up as a proper meal.

Protein bar.

Sometimes if I'm feeling extra I will microwave some scrambled eggs and shovel them in my body, but that is more work.

Frozen pizza or frozen meals in general. Sometimes I get the premade crusts and just throw mozzarella slices and jarred sauce on them instead, though.

I like Amy's Organic cheese enchiladas.

Cheese and salami and crackers and olives charcuterie for one.

Grilled cheese sandwich or any sandwich.

Caesar salad; all you need is romaine, dressing, parmesan and those premade croutons. I have this for lunch almost every day.

First Malcolm-Jamal Warner, then Ozzy, then Hulk Hogan (yay), then Chuck Mangione. Not taking the guy we want though. :/
