I was about to say my excuse is that I'm into anime and JRPGs and most of those have teen casts by default (even if a lot of them are, to borrow from the comment above, "adult teens") but "I'm into anime and JRPGs" as an excuse might just support your hypothesis.

Honestly, like 90% of anime teens are only teens in name. They look, act, and are treated like adults most of the time.

+1. I do kind of get where OP is coming from, because there's a certain type of adult that is very focused on children's media that is aimed at teens and younger as well that I know what they're talking about, I just disagree on the cause of the phenomena. OP thinks it's because the cast is all teenagers, but there is actually a lot of media meant for adults that have a teenage cast of characters. IMO it's because it's meant for children. There's a lot of overlap, but I think the distinction is significant.
