I'm sorry that happened. Totally NOT your fault, and you are not abandoning her to die in the streets. You're doing the right thing for everybody. It's a shame the shelter didn't realize how cat-aggressive the dog was.
Try not to be down on yourself about it, you're doing what needs to be done.
