Meat Fat

Do you eat fat on meat or do you hate it?

Inspired by me picking apart a porkchop with my fingers to ensure I don't get a bit of fat.

Grossssss. Hate it.

But the last time I ate meat was over 20 years ago and the last time I ate something with fat like a porkchop was even longer, so I'm probably not the greatest target audience for this poll.

I love it because on well cooked meat it's often SOOOO flavorful.

Also skin on chickens. I used to linger around when my mom took apart a rotisserie chicken (to save the meat) so I could get some of that delicious seasoned fried skinfat.

I hate fat personally. It is mostly a texture thing.

Haaaaate it. Entirely a texture issue though, which is especially frustrating because folks love to criticize fat-avoiders with "it's good for you actually" and "it's where all the flavor is." I agree with you on an intellectual level! But the squidgy texture of a fat layer on a roast, or a steak so well-marbled that it feels like chewing carbonated water, just makes me sick to my stomach on a visceral level.

Carbonated water? Off hand, I don't remember fat having a texture at all, but this is definitely giving me second thoughts- 'cause that both sounds oddly visceral and like nothing I can imagine at all. I'm both horrified and intrigued.

Properly cooked meat should render the fat down so it isn't present in the finished dish. If a slab of pork or beef has that big strip of fat I know isn't going to render during the cooking time, I do trim that off. I don't mind it, but I'm not dumb - it's not meat, it's fat, it doesn't have flavor if it hasn't been rendered down to impart the flavor to the meat. If my meat comes out of my pan with a little strip left, I can eat it, I won't fight to try to trim it off. I can't afford to throw away food.

LOVE IT! And without it I'd probably starve since I'm on a Keto diet indefinitely due to medical reasons. So the fattiest the meat it the better!

If it's on a fried edge or it's minimal like good marbling, or it something like crispy chicken skin, I love it. Bacon is very fatty and is delightful.

I don't like blobs of fat or gristly fat, though.

Am on the keto diet and have lost 50 pounds of fat eating fat.

I love it, but try to limit my intake so as not to upset my digestion. Pork fat is delicious to me. Pork belly? Helllll yeah. Love peeling crispy chicken skin off a roast chicken, eating the little tail nub thingy that's basically fat and skin. Smokey strip of fat on a fatty brisket? GOD YES PLEASE.

Sorry, hope that didn't make you ill. But yes, I love it.

Yessss! To all of it but especially the roast chicken skin. I used to buy roast chicken every week and I always ate that little tail nub thingie already when I was still walking home, cause 1) it's the most delicious thing and 2) I did not want anyone in my family to steal it from me. That was *mine* and mine alone, lmao. I don't get roast chicken that much anymore since I moved, but when I do, I still always make sure it has a nice tail nub and that's still what I eat first.

I naw on it like a chipmunk going into winter, I love it! The fat has so much flavour, it's amazing when you render it right. It's the gristle you need to stay away from.
