Preach. I loved Balan and was massively disappointed to see his anime face. I hate when cute characters get really boring human forms, I felt the same way with Okage Shadow King.

I imagine it's the same reason why family-friendly G-rate dmovies/shows/games are the ones with the kinkiest fandoms, and why the majority of fic for grimdark edgelord everything-is-grey movies/shows/games is fluff and fix-its and babies-ever-after.

Well, yeah. Lots of pink and bows and cutesy manners are deliberately used for hiding censorship, entitlement, manipulation, arrogance, lack of empathy, and selfishness. They can't really get away with that in an inherently "problematic" fandom, because everyone who is a fan of whatever the "problematic" show/movie/book/game is likes to understand and explore these issues and will absolutely call them out on their gaslighting bullshit.

It's actually true that people have a harder time telling people apart when they are different than what you're used to seeing every day.

I really dislike shows that have very similar looking people in the cast for this reason (when we're talking US cable TV, it's blandly handsome guys with the same dark hair, similar hairstyles and occasionally, stubble). I really need some of these characters to be styled differently. Office dramas are the worst if they're all wearing suits. Same for military ones when everyone's in the same uniform and they CAN'T give the characters much different hair. You can see how the original Top Gun was an exception, except it seems to me that often, most of the cast in something like that all look like the character Hollywood.

Please give some characters in shows wild haircuts or glasses or something!

I enjoy K-dramas but the airbrushing of everyone on-screen can get a bit much, so it's not a you thing OP. I'm just used to it honestly, lol. The one that still takes me out every so often is some of the women have super pale faces but dark/more tan necks and once I noticed that the first time I couldn't stop. xD

It's not all the time and if they're pale all over that's fine, but the start face to neck difference can get distracting.

It's rough. I do agree with you that the chemistry is great.

They did try to make up for the problematic of it all in the last season, but IMHO that just made it an entirely different show.

It's probably accurate to say something like... they all look like they share the same plastic surgeon/airbrush artist and are aiming for the same generically conventionally attractive look. Because they probably do.

I can't tell Fox News blondes apart either, and it's not because they're white.
