A lot of american libraries will grant internet only cards with no residency requirement. Being able to access Libby, though, is a problem I cannot help with.

lol I agree! Studied Russian for unrelated goals, but I ended up using it a lot for piracy years ago when I had to pirate rare stuff like lost dictionaries and software! Only russian sites/IRC channels had the stuff I needed!
Sites in mandarin too are quite good, for weaboo stuff at least.

and yep, THIS. sometimes I need to remind myself that some North Americans really have no idea how the world outside their country is like. They never see it and mostly they are not even curious about it. Quite baffling to me, but EH. The privilege of being the most "important" country of the world, I guess. (I can't find a better adjective oh well)
I find it quite humorous here though since I believe it's now quite well known that there are regular nonnies that are from different European countries.

Nope. Just incredibly frustrated with the lack of reading comprehension going on here. The secret literally says they could use Libby but doesn't. So naturally we called them out on their bullshit. People who don't have access to Libby started getting defensive (do you have a Libby equivalent?) because we called someone who isn't like them at all out on their bullshit and tried to defend said bullshit.

Incidentally, I'm studying Mandarin because I love cNovels and the sound of tonal languages but I'm forever stuck on the first lessons because of the laziness.

US is the most important country, for better or for worse. I kinda imagine US to be in cahoots with UK on political arena, but that's just me. I have no proof.
