seems like it's a realtime fandom example of "don't make your hobby your job or you'll start to hate it." at some point I bet they flipped from "yay, I get to play DnD for a living!" to "oh god people still want us to play DnD for a living I'm so bored of it and tired but the fans and money but oh god..."

Naw I think they still genuinely l9ve it, but the fact is they all have very busy schedules with other full time jobs. This is a second job for them and fitting in the live shows after a busy day was probably exhausting sometimes, wven if they still had fun. Nevermind clearing their schedule for 4hrs or however long it took each Thursday.

While I miss the live shows I definitely understand why taped shows are a lot easier and probably even brings back some of the joy for them.

I agree! I don't get the impression that they want to do Critical Role full-time (except maybe Marisha?). And their "first" job is not just any other full time job, it is temporary projects in an industry with many more applicants than work, where you're only as good as your last performance, where networking is everything and it takes years to build up a reputation, and if you take a break, you'll have a very hard time getting back in. So yeah, they have to keep a foot in the door.
