Honestly, the whole situation just reads to me as "we didn't actually want to do another campaign, but we're contractually obligated, so we're doing everything we possibly can to pare down how much actual time each of us needs to dedicate to this thing."

Did it? Seems like that sort of cult following episodal thing moved to webtoons and online video, and straight to streaming and insert-streaming-service original series replaced VHS

Direct-to-video was shorthand for low quality movies that had poor writing, terrible acting, and abysmal editing. There’s definitely a market for that and it’s a shame that the cult followers aren’t getting a steady diet of that anymore. But the impact on fandom is nonexistent.

I know this is old drama, but honestly they lost a lot of my interest when the shows were no longer live. It just didn't have the same vibes anymore. Been going downhill since then.

Like you said, happy for them and they should do whatever makes them happy, just sad for me.

Nonny on the Birds of Prey secret, I did finally see your reply to me and I really loved hearing how much you enjoyed that film.

I paused watching on campaign 3, ep 43 (but have plans to watch the rest! I just needed a break) and am too worried about spoilers to watch any announcements, but I think change is good.

They are getting in a rut with campaign 3 and I'm convinced it is because they know each other and the DM too well. It's harder to do something fresh and unexpected, especially in these very long campaigns and playing the same characters for so many hours.

I think fans tend to underestimate how hard it is to remain original when doing the same thing over and over. Like, comments for "4-Sided Dive" are frequently "I don't even need the games or gameplay questions, I could just watch them talk about anything at all", but the questions and games aren't there for us, they're there for the cast to have something to do.

So yeah, changing the format and adding new cast members makes me cautiously optimistic.

I think some of these were on the easier side in terms of placing them relative to the other events. (I try to also guess the century or decade and did not great at that.)

And that last one is making me feel like there are some real gaps in my historical awareness.

I've gotten 3 job interviews plus a second interview for one of them. And a guy just asked for my number, which never, ever happens to me. Feeling kind of good today.

The direct-to-video market was just a subsection of the home video market, and not one super relevant to fandom unless you liked disney sequels or horror.

But yeah, the home video market was basically a chance to double your money (or a second chance at making profit at all) and could have long tails. Studios are less likely to take risks because streaming doesn't make money the same way, so they demand it makes a billion dollars right away.

I don't understand what preachy is. Woke? Anti war? There's so many reasons to avoid rewatches but preachiness is a stretch. Especially seeing the current media.
