If you are writing for humans, then you are probably gonna have to have the humans be the special ones. The human audience is notoriously fickle in that regard.

I disagree. There is some great scifi and fantasy out there where humans are believably awful to other species. And some where they are just one part of the larger world.

Someone just outed themselves as a visiting Alien.

This is excusable in live action, because not everyone can act through that many layers of makeup.

Sure. But Babylon 5 has aliens. The Minbari have been way more active in the galaxy than the humans, but still humans are the special ones.

I feel like at least Babylon 5 was fair about it. Like yes, humans were special. But they were also flawed. You had President Clark and his government and those who supported him. You had humans who followed the Shadows. Humans were just as flawed as everyone else, they just happened to be very good at getting people to work together. At least the main character humans did.

THIS.
This is my most hated fucking trope EVER. 'Only humans love each other like this!!!' Really? I find that totally fucking hard to believe, especially considering our gruesome history toward each other since forever. And toward animals. And toward the planet.

How about 'these specific humans make me have feels, but in the main they're kind of douchey' as a more realistic (and more interesting) theme?

I always had the impression that the Minbari were the most specialist species in Babylon 5.

Although the religious festival episode ending was kind of lacking in imagination.

It'ss always either "humans are the best" or "humans are the very worst!" Honestly, I don't like either.
