I am glad fans are now more widely accepted, but sometimes I miss the old days when manga and cartoons were niche and geeky and seen as just kids' stuff. I don't care about them, I can't get into them, I don't want to know more, and I feel like they're everywhere I look.

I don't like wizards and dragons or romantasy stuff, and I am not a fantasy fan, and I'd love to not hear about the genre any more... but I can't imagine actually missing the days when most people dismissed all of fantasy as a genre as "for children," ignoring that stuff like LotR has always existed

I prefer the world with less people believing objectively untrue things, idk

You're mixing adult animation in with children's cartoons and anime in the secret image (not sure who actually made the secret or chose the background.) I don't know all of these but small children should definitely not be watching Attack on Titan or Hazbin Hotel.

For the most part, I think it's great that people of all ages can geek out over their hobbies, even things like comics, cartoon shows, anime/manga, video games, board games, LARPing, etc.

But there is a fine line between "let people enjoy what they want" and the level of taste in which someone on the outside finds those enthused by the hobby to be immature/cringe/uncomfortable.

I've already been a fun killer too often in my past that I simply stay quiet (or make a simple "great for you but this isn't for me" comment) and see myself out. People should be allowed to enjoy the past times that they do. If it's not for me, I have other avenues to find something I do enjoy.

I liked BOTH the Granada series Watsons. They were different, to be sure. David Burke (#1) played it a bit more broadly, but honestly? I appreciated the touch of humor and playfulness it added to the Holmes/Watson relationship. Edward Hardwicke (#2) was more serious in the role, but also good, though I don't think he quite brought the same feel of "get your Webley and be ready to kick down this door" element. But I enjoy both Watsons equally.

I have no idea if there's a fan consensus on the two Watsons or what it is, but I agree with you. They're a little different, but not jarringly so, and both good.

I liked both Watsons as well, but for me the change made sense considering the timeline. Hardwick was the post-Reichenbach Falls Watson and post-losing-Mary Watson, both would have added a seriousness to his characterization and explain why he had a little less of the Thrill Of The Hunt/Chase kind of personality.

I don't think I can quite justify it, but I think Edward Hardwicke's face suits Watson more, even if he was older and less action-oriented. Paget's original artwork gives Watson a serious but somewhat mild expression, and David Burke has a touch of "angry eyebrows".

I find it both ironic and faintly hilarious that Avery Brooks' attempts to avoid the deadbeat dad stereotype hanging around Sisko's neck regarding the DS9 finale has actually made a large part of the DS9 fandom embrace it.

Streisand Effect is a bitch, y'all.

Honestly, the fact that Sisko says he'll come back at some point doesn't make him any less of a deadbeat for leaving his new kid. Then again, it wasn't his choice. But that is true whether he comes back or not. I just don't think adding that made much of a difference.

Personally I think it would have been better not to add the pregnancy to the mix.

I watched the Star Wars: The Clone Wars on mute because the sound of the voice actors wasn't close enough to the original actors. I play FF:VII Rebirth on mute because the sound of the voice actors wasn't close enough to the original voice actors. There are a lot of Youtubers with voices that grate on me, so I watch them on mute.

Once upon a time I just wouldn't have watched them, so it's really made me appreciate good subtitling and resent autogenerated garbage.

I headcanon the never-seen Adele Metzger as trans. I don't want to say as much because I fear the misunderstanding (oh, just because a woman is an ex-Marine, she can't be cis? etc, etc).

*I'm* trans. I just think it's comforting to imagine a somewhat butch trans woman being accepted as merely quirky but likeable, after moving to a small town in the late eighties!
